Mike Cattermole is British horse racing commentator and presenter. He began his career at Timeform in 1984 before moving to The Sporting Life Weekender in 1986 and then onto the daily The Sporting Life where he reported, wrote features and provided in-running comments for the form book until the paper closed in 1998. Between 1989 and 1993 he was agent to jockey Willie Carson. They shared 700 domestic winners in five seasons together. He also briefly assisted Lester Piggott in 1994. He began racecourse commentating in 1993 and has called at all British racecourses, including numerous Cheltenham Festivals and has been regularly heard at York and Doncaster racecourses on their feature days. He has also commentated in South Africa (Kenilworth) and New Zealand (Ellerslie). He was first seen on camera with The Racing Channel which was launched in 1995. He was a member of the BAFTA and RTS-winning Channel 4 Racing team from 1999 until Highflyer Productions were replaced by IMG at the end of 2012. He occupied various roles, anchoring, race-calling and paddock commentator and for the last three years was the main presenter, alongside Emma Spencer, of the Flat racing coverage which included live coverage of the Dubai World Cup. He was the launch presenter for Attheraces in 2001 and presented the Breeders' Cup meeting alongside John McCririck. He still presents regularly for Sky Sports Racing and has presented general sports bulletins on Sky News and Sky Sports News. He won the Derby Award for best racing broadcaster in 2006 and has been nominated numerous times before and since. He is the co-author of two books, "Joe Mercer, the Pictorial Biography" with Richard Baerlein (1987) and "Nothing To Hide" with Edward Hide (1989).
Charity Work
He is currently chair of the Bob Champion Cancer Trust and an ambassador for Racing Welfare for which he was a trustee for nine years.
