If the only coverage of a song occurs in the context of reviews of the album on which it appears, that material should be contained in the album article and an independent article about the song should not be created. This rules out all but two sources for the purposes of ascertaining notability, namely the FAQ book, which I cannot access but appears promising, and songfacts, which I am not certain is a reliable source. “Mellowship Slinky in B Major” is a song by the American rock band
Red Hot Chili Peppers from their 1991 album
Blood Sugar Sex Magik.

from the album Blood Sugar Sex Magik | |
Released | September 24, 1991 |
Recorded | May - June 1991 |
Studio | The Mansion |
Genre | Rock |
Length | 3:59 |
Label | Warner Records |
Songwriter(s) | Flea, John Frusciante, Anthony Kiedis, Chad Smith |
Producer(s) | Rick Rubin |
The song has seen an inclusion on the compilation albums Plasma and the Studio Album Collection 1991-2011. [1] The song has never been played live in full length, but was partially played live two times. [2]
The lyrics talk about Anthony’s favorite things, while making a reference to the Jimi Hendrix hit Purple Haze. The line “I’ve got a non-stop ‘yo Swan’ hello chip” is a reference to Anthony Kiedis, who was often called “Antwan the Swan” [3]
Most listeners said that the song was “not bad, but not great” [4] Modern Drummer said it was "Nicely funky with only a bit of attitude" [5] MusicRader also said that "Flea's melodic, high-register opener gives way to yet another addictive sliding riff" [6]
There is a lot of debate about what key the song is actually in. Such as D Major. it was later confirmed that the song was in B Mixolydian, with a key signature of E major. [7]
