Mehdi Moghimnejad (Persian:مهدی مقیمنژاد) (born1976) is an Iranian contemporary art photographer, academician and theorist best known as one of the pioneers of photograph manipulation in digital era in Iran.
Mehdi Moghimnejad is an Iranian fine art photographer and conceptual photographer. He was born in 27 July 1976 (Officially: 3 August 1975) in Babol. He always emphasizes the influence of the atmosphere of this northern city on the world of his imagination. Since he was a teenager, he was fond of literature, poetry, theater and cinema. He mentions the artistic and intellectual circles of masters such as Rahim Mowlaian [1] and Ahmad Nasrollahi [2] in the early 1990s in Babol as very progressive and fateful spaces. He later chose photography as his main artistic medium.
Moghimnejad got a B.A. in Graphic Design in 1999, M.F.A in photography in 2001 and P.h.D. in Art Studies in 2010 from Iran University of Art (TUA). Since 2000 and at the same time as his doctoral studies, he has been a visiting professor in undergraduate and graduate degrees in the fields of photography, graphic design and cinema in universities such as Iran University of Art, College of Fine Arts (University of Tehran), Isfahan University of Art, Soore university and Islamic Azad university. Since 2009, Moghimnejad became a member of the Faculty of Visual Arts of Iran University of Art with the rank of Assistant Professor. [3]
Also, Moghimnejad has been the advisor of more than fifty master's and doctoral dissertations in the fields of photography and art studies. [4]
Since 2000, Moghimnejad has played a prominent role in contemporary Iranian art as a lecturer, critic, translator, curator, art director, member of jury boards and policy-making councils. [5] [6] [7]
Moghimnejad's photography world can be described as a dialogue with the history and culture of Iran. With a very personal hyper realistic photomontage method, which he called Verisimilitudes, since 2000, he has tried to have a questioning and conceptual look at the various strains of Iran's history in numerous collections. From this point of view, Moghimnejad should be considered as one of the pioneers of the photograph manipulation approach in the digital era in Iranian contemporary art. [8] [9] [10] [11] [12] Moghimnejad has had four solo exhibitions and participated in more than fifty group exhibitions [13] [14] [15] [16] [17] [18] [19], Art Fairs and Art Auctions inside and outside of Iran such as US [20] and UK. [21] [22] [23] [24] [25]
Also, except for photography, Moghimnejad has also been active in other artistic mediums. For example, we can mention his presence in the internationally recognized this situation, a performance by acclaimed British-German Tino Segal, a Turner prize-nominated artist in November 2011, which was held in cooperation with the Goethe Institute in Tehran. [26]
Or as another example, Moghimnejad has designed the title sequence of the Noah's Ark documentary directed by Soudabeh Babagap. This film won awards in numerous international festivals and its title sequence was noticed. Also, in the year of its production, this film won the Crystal Simorgh Award as the best documentary film from the 21st Fajr International Film Festival in 2001.
Or as another example, Moghimnejad, as a poet, published his collection of poems between 1994-2000 in a book titled "The Rain of Jackal" by Herfe Honarmand publication in 2016. This book was nominated for the third edition of the Ahmad Shamloo poetry award as the best collection of Persian poetry in 2015.
Moghimnejad has written more than a hundred articles in English and Persian in Photo (Aks) Monthly, Tandis Visual Art Biweekly, Art (Honar) Quarterly, Art-Profession (Herfe-Honarmand) Quarterly, Monthly Book of Art (Ketaab-e-Mah-e-Honar), Binaab Quarterly, Cinema and Literature (Cinema-va-Adabiaat) Quarterly, Art Tomorrow (Honar-e-Farda) Quarterly, Jam-e-Jam newspaper, Sharqh newspaper, Etemad newspaper, Daily Star newspaper and Apollonia Art Foundation [28]. A list of his Academic publishing is also available. [29]
Moreover, since 2000, Moghimnejad has held more than sixty lectures, workshops, panel discussions [30] [31], artist talks and master classes.
Among his other research and editorial activities, we can mention the following:
Two Artworks of Mehdi Moghimnejad are kept in the following permanent treasure:
Tehran Museum of Contemporary Arts
