Francisco Javier Fornell Fernández (born in Cádiz, December, 6th, 1978) is a writer, cultural manager, historian and columnist in the Vocento group. [1]
Biography
Fco. Javier Fornell Fernández graduated in History in 2000 and obtained his Cum Lauden doctorate in Medieval History in 2016 with the thesis Low medieval lineages and families in the area of the Bay of Cádiz. 13th to 15th centuries, directed by Arturo Morgado García and Rafael Sánchez Saus, both at the University of Cádiz. His field of research is early medieval society and lineages, especially in the Cadiz area. Having published various articles, both informative and scientific, in various magazines. [1]
He has also published several books, among which Linajes Gaditanos en la Baja Edad Media. [2] He has combined these research works with work as project coordinator at the University of Massachusetts in Spain (2013-2018) and with teaching at the University of San Dámaso, Cádiz extension (2012-2018). In 2017 he founded the Sur Tour company, an experiential tourism company based on the slow travel philosophy, beginning his teaching activity at the Antonio de Nebrija University, in the teaching and ICT masters.
He combines this aspect of historian with that of writer. His best-known works have been for the Spanish publishers Ediciones Mayi, where he has published his historical novels.Llamadme Cabrón. Historia de un pirata [3] y Lanza y oro; [4] y Kaizen Editores in which he published Tanguillos de muerte. An animal lover, the least known side of him is found in his cynological studies that he has been publishing since 2017 on the Toppercan website.
On several occasions he has shown a real interest in historical dissemination, which has led him to collaborate regularly on local television programs, such as El Farol de Onda Cádiz. From 1997 to 2010, this interest in dissemination was reflected in the Ubi Sunt? Association. in which he coordinated various magazines and of which he is co-founder along with the historians Ángel Quintana and Fco. Glicero Conde. In 2019 he began a new literary career at the head of Kaizen Editores, a publishing house that defends sustainable literature and the need to control the number of volumes published on paper with the aim of being environmentally responsible.
Awards
Fco. Javier Fornell Fernández has been awarded the I and III Hades Research Prize (2006 and 2008 respectively, in the second case for two works) and received an ascesit in the III Hades Research Prize (2010), promoted by the University of Cádiz, the City Council of Cádiz and Cemabasa. [5]
Publications
His work is divided into fiction and non-fiction. In the first case, Javier Fornell shows fast and agile language. Focused on the historical novel, the writer Jesús Maeso de la Torre has gone so far as to say that he keeps the best of Umberto Eco in the creation of the atmosphere and of Arturo Pérez Reverte in the ease of narrating the adventures, which has allowed his works have had a great reception.
