Greenbelt 2 station is a proposed Washington Metro station in Greenbelt, Maryland

History

The station is a part of two of several alternatives for the metro. As of 2024, the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority is currently evaluating alternatives which could take up to two decades [1]

Location

The station would be adjacent to Greenbelt 1, just towards the left of it. However, the station would have separate tracks.

Reason for proposal

Due to capacity issues at Rosslyn, the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority proposed a new Blue or Silver line route providing service to many new stations. This station was proposed as the terminus of a new Blue or Silver line that would run from their normal western termini ( Franconia-Springfield and Ashburn) and would re-route after leaving Virginia and go to this station instead.
