Erol Bulut (1955–2021) is a multi-award-winning Turkish painter and a professor of fine arts at Marmara University between 1982 and 2021. [1] His subjects, often romantic and sensitive, are portrayed with a level of imagination and emotion that has captivated audiences. His work has been widely taught in universities due to their particular geometric composition, unique style and tones. [2] His artworks are included in many notable galleries' permanent collections, making him one of the most influential Turkish painters of modern times. [3] [4]
Erol Bulut was born in İğneada, Kırklareli, in 1955, as the middle child among five children to a family immigrated from Thessaloniki. Due to his father's profession as a member of Turkish Land Forces, he completed his primary, secondary, and high school education in various regions of Turkey. Consequently, he had the privilege of experiencing diverse regions and cultures of Turkey during his formative years.
During his childhood, Erol Bulut harboured a dream which led him to enter the Istanbul State Academy of Fine Arts - Department of Painting (IDGSA), currently known as Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University in Istanbul. In 1982, he successfully graduated earning the esteemed "Certificate of Excellence" from the Istanbul Artists and Art Lovers Association for his exceptional artistic talent. His diligence during his academy years earned him the nickname "Coach" among his friends. In 1980, while still a student, he married Ümran Bulut (Şehirali), who also later became Professor of Fine Arts education at Marmara University. [5] [6]
