Elapsed Beats is a theory of a method of displaying song progress that serves as an alternative to showing time. It factors in the song's BPM (beats per minute) and the current time position to return a number between 0 and a (###) hundreds or sometimes (####) thousands number using the beat as a form of position from start to finish of the song.

It can be represented by the equation BPM/60*timeinseconds. Position and/or length in beats is represented by the symbol 'Ë'. This symbol is used because of E for Elapsed Beats, and the dots represent beats.

Example: " September" by Daughtry is 150 BPM. (Source: https://songbpm.com/daughtry/september)

The song's length in time is 4 min, 4 sec (4:04), so 150/60*244- 244 is 4:04 in only seconds, is 610. Daughtry- September has a length of 610 beats, 610 elapsed beats or 610 Ë.

Elapsed Beats as a form of position would be the same. At 1:51, 150/60*111 is 277.5. A counter that is rounded to the nearest whole number might show 277 Ë or 278 Ë depending if it showed absolute or rounded position.

Position can also be subtracted from the total to show remaining beats.

According to an app demonstration, When the BPM (beats per minute) was charted on a graph for certain songs, changes in BPM over the time in some songs were seen, both subtly and drastically. This means that a counter for beats could vary at different points in a song.
