Alina Orchestra is a professional orchestra based in Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire, England [1] [2] [3]. It was founded in 2017 by Nick Cutts, who is currently Chief Executive believing that "Alina could act as a ‘resource’ for communities" [4]. Concerts have previously been put on by the orchestra revolving around this community aspect including concerts to celebrate women in the community for events like National women's day [5] [6], and to celebrate Milton Keynes' City status along with the King's Coronation [7]. The orchestra attempts to create concerts to introduce classical music to audiences.
Since the orchestra's Creation, the ensemble has been led by Musical Director and Conductor, Hilary Davan Wetton. Alina is a non-profit charity [1], supported using public funding by Arts Council England [2] and further supported by government grants [1], Milton Keynes City Council [2] and The Rothschild Foundation [8]. The orchestra is currently named the ‘Orchestra in Residence’ at The University of Buckingham [9].The ensemble operates in and around Milton Keynes [10]and wider Buckinghamshire, previous concerts being held at The Venue MK [11] [12], The Stables theatre [13], and Aylesbury Waterside Theatre [14]. Previous soloists include Anna Hashimoto (Clarinet) [15] and Craig Greene (Piano) [16], who is named the 'Alina Orchestra Artist in Residence’ [16]
Alina's motto is that 'Music is for everyone' [17] [2]
