The 2024 1922 Committee Leadership Contest was a contest fought in 2024 to determine the next leader of the influential 1922 Committee.

The contest was initiated after long standing chair Sir Graham Brady stood down from the House of Commons.

The Committee is widely expected to play a crucial role in the Conservative Party leadership election, to replace former Prime Minister Rishi Sunak. [1]

Contenders

The 1922 Committee was left with two remaining members after the 2024 UK general election, who were the only two Conservative Party MPs to stand. He is currenty the Executive Secretary of the 1922 Committee.

Bob Blackman, the MP for Harrow East, increased his majority in the election despite a national Labour landslide. [2]

Sir Geoffrey Clifton-Brown, the MP for the newly formed constituency of North Costswolds, where he has been an MP since 1992. [3]He is the current treasurer of the committee.

Results

Bob Blackman won the contest by a comfortable majority, 61 votes to 37 - with 98 votes cast. [4]

After the contest, he became one of the most senior Tory backbenchers.
