The locality takes its name from the railway station name assigned by the Queensland Railways Department on 6 January 1921 and is an Aboriginal word meaning possum. [2]
Woodbine State School opened on 16 October 1922. It was renamed Berrembea State School in 1924. It closed in 1967. [4] It was at 559 Berrembea Road ( 25°01′39″S 152°02′26″E / 25.02739°S 152.04050°E). [5]
