Daniel Håkans (born 26 October 2000) is a Finnish professional footballer playing as a winger for Eliteserien club Vålerenga, and the Finland national team. Born in Vaasa, Håkans is a Swedish-speaking Finn.
He started to play football with a local club VIFK, before moving to Seinäjoki and signing with SJK in 2019. He said in an interview, that he didn't speak any Finnish before moving to Seinäjoki. [4] [5] In SJK, Håkans was deployed in multiple positions, as a wing-back and as a midfielder as well.
In the summer 2022, Håkans signed a loan deal with Norwegian Eliteserien club Jerv for the rest of the season, with a purchase option. Despite Jerv being relegated after the season, the club exercised their option and Håkans signed a permanent deal, for a total fee of €210,000.
However, after only a short time, Håkans was acquired by fellow Eliteserien side Vålerenga [6] on a four-year deal as the replacement for Osame Sahraoui, for a transfer fee of €400,000. [7] He usually celebrates his goals with a Käärijä-celebration.
On 8 June 2023, he was called up to the Finland national team for the first time; he made his senior national team debut on 16 June 2023 against Slovenia. [8] [9] On 19 June 2023, in his second international appearance, he scored his first goals for his country – a hat-trick during a nine-minute span – after coming off the bench for Oliver Antman in the 60th minute of in a 6–0 win against San Marino during the UEFA Euro 2024 qualifying. [10] [11]
Håkans made six appearances in the UEFA Euro 2024 qualification campaign, scoring four goals.
