It occurs naturally in the waters around Bangladesh, Malaysia [2] India, Singapore, [3] Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Taiwan, Thailand, Australia, Italy ( Invasive species), Egypt (Invasive species), Mediterranean Sea (Invasive species).
