"Celestica" is the first single from Crystal Castles' second album, Crystal Castles. The single was released digitally as an EP, featuring the three B-sides on the Doe Deer 12" EP. This single also included a single mix of "Celestica". A no-budget video for the track was released as well, directed by Rob Hawkins, a friend of the band. [2] No official artwork has been presented for the single. [3]
The song is said to have some relation to the Canadian factory Celestica. Ethan Kath claimed that a worker committed suicide by jumping into a tub of hot plastic. According to him, the body melted, and the plastic was still used to make products. [4] No records describing this suicide at the factory are known to exist, and the story is commonly believed to be an urban legend. [5]
This song was featured in video game Pro Evolution Soccer 2011, gaining the song publicity. [6]
The core elements of first single "Celestica", for example, are pure shoegaze, but the waves of distortion that scrape across its chorus squash any concerns that the duo has gone soft.
