I used the userbox {{User US state|IA}} and it added me to this category. But I'm from Iowa, not in Iowa, which is the userbox I used - anyone know how that link works?
It's the way the template works. Template:User US state incorporates another template (to get the flag) that puts people in the "in" category. I'd recommend using one of the Iowa-specific templates. {{User Iowa}} is for people in Iowa, while the newly created {{User Iowa origin}} is for people from Iowa. --PhilosopherLet us reason together. 06:56, 4 August 2008 (UTC)reply
Also, if you are interested, there is a template available to put an Iowa flag in the corner of your userpage at {{User Iowa Flag}}. Note that this template will also add you to the from category. --PhilosopherLet us reason together. 07:01, 4 August 2008 (UTC)reply
Subcategory of Wikipedians in Iowa, is Wikipedians in Iowa?

That all seems wrong, I am removing it... but what I am wondering is why there isn't a Des Moines Metro area group yet.
Any objections to me removing this endless category tree?

After looking at this further, the issue is the {{User Iowa}} example in there... I'm going to remove the example, leave the rest. If anyone objects to this, well, is there any other way to do that instead of creating an endless category tree?

Yeesh, well, alright then, I guess it's all over the place with cities & states. I'm putting it back... it's just, eh, I'll get over it.
