I have merged the Category:Irish Olympic Council men's international footballers into this category. That name was completly wrong. The belief that the
Irish Olympic Council somehow organised the 1924 and 1948 Ireland Olympic football teams is complete nonsense and simply not true. There is no evidence to support this. It was just an (incorrect) reason offered as to why the
Football Association of Ireland did not recognise these matches as full internationals. Both team were entirely organised by the FAI. The IOC did little more than rubber stamp the teams entry. As of May 2024, the 1924 matches have now been recognised by the FAI as full internationals.
