is this a category for (1) professional martial artist who compete for money, or (2) actors who are famous (to some degree) for their martial arts displays in movies/tv. as it stands now, i think this list is incongruous and most likely should be split. uri budnik 01:33, 26 September 2005 (UTC)
Should individuals be placed under the root "Martial arts practitioners" as well as subcategories, or subcategories only? Please comment. Shawnc 05:52, 18 November 2005 (UTC)
Some observations: if everyone remains under this root category, the {{verylarge}} tag will inevitably be inserted (there are millions of martial arts practitioners in the world). Sorting the individuals should not be problematic, since the various traditional disciplines are well-defined, codified systems (refer to the martial arts article); a person who practices only aikido would not (and should not) consider himself to be a practitioner of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu or Capoeira, and so on. A person who is known to practice multiple disciplines can be placed under multiple categories. Popular subcategories can be subcategorized further by nationality (see Category:Karateka). Those who practice combat but do not belong to traditional or common disciplines can still go into a subcategory (ex. Category:Martial arts practitioners by nationality or maybe an "Unaffiliated" or "Freestyle" category) Shawnc 04:09, 19 November 2005 (UTC)
