are we sure this is not also a category for antisemites? one of the so called critics here was the perp of a gun battle at the holocaust memorial. thats not criticism. Mercurywoodrose ( talk) 16:22, 16 June 2014 (UTC) reply

If you see every criticizer of Judaism as the worst one, yeah. That's kind of like saying every Zionist is an anti-palestine antisemite though 77.165.250.227 ( talk) 23:01, 28 February 2015 (UTC) reply

Jews vs Judaism? "Critics" vs antisemites?

It doesn't seem like this list is made of of people who criticize Judaism the religion, but of antisemites—people who hate ethnic Jews. Ben Chapman (baseball) is on here for making antisemitic slurs against someone who wasn't even a Jew, and I'm pretty sure Joseph Goebbels' "criticism" wasn't over religious issues. Compare this to Paul of Burgos, who was a Jewish convert to Christianity who became opposed to Judaism the religion and tried to convert other Jews to Christianity. Totally agree. I have been looking at Category:Protocols of the Elders of Zion, which contains a lot of really primitive anti-semites propagating the Protocols - and they are categorized as "Critics of Judaism". I did not touch those categorizations yet, but I will, unless somebody has good reasons against it.
Telling lies about somebody is not criticism. This category desperately needs vetting. -- Hob Gadling ( talk) 16:05, 19 March 2019 (UTC) reply
Turns out a lot of those people (possibly all of them) were added by the same IP two years ago: [1], probably not maliciously. -- Hob Gadling ( talk) 16:09, 19 March 2019 (UTC) reply
I agree that this list is problematic. One problem is that the list consists primarily of people who might be antisemites, not merely critics. After all, don't most thoughtful atheists and Christians have some criticisms of some form of Judaism? Indeed, numerous religious Jew thinkers have some criticisms of some form of Judaism, right? Second, bigger problem, is Wikipedia editors established a "Consensus for a unified approach to these (bias) categories; most support to ban individuals & organisations" see this discussion /info/en/?search=Wikipedia:Categories_for_discussion/Log/2011_February_9#Bias_categories . This list comes across as a way to avoid this consensus against categories of biased people. So, it would be appropriate to delete this category. Thoughts? cc:@ Hob Gadling: Thanks. I don't do categories anymore. WP:OPINIONCAT is overly strictly applied to climate change deniers, to the extent of even removing the category from articles about activists, because of a local consensus of about five people (including several climate change deniers), but not at all to "critics of". It's just Wild West, and I gave up a few years ago. -- Hob Gadling ( talk) 14:04, 7 June 2024 (UTC) reply
