From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In the original Japanese context, an otaku is someone who has an obsessive interest in something, commonly anime or manga. The term is mostly equivalent to " geek" or " nerd", but in a more derogatory manner than used in the West. The word entered English as a loanword from the Japanese language. It is typically used to refer to a fan of anime or manga but can also refer to Japanese video games or Japanese culture in general.
