Carter J. Eckert is an American historian and Korea specialist currently serving as the Yoon Se Young Professor of Korean History at Harvard University. [1]
Eckert was born in Chicago, Illinois. [2] He attended Lawrence University, where he studied Western ancient and medieval history. [2] Eckert then undertook graduate studies, earning a Master of Arts in 1968. [3]
After graduating from Harvard, Eckert worked as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Korea. [2] He later returned to the U.S. to undertake doctoral study in Korean and Japanese history at the University of Washington. [2]
