Samhällsnytt (Society News) or Samnytt [1] is a Swedish right-wing populist [2] [3] online news website founded in 2017. Oxford University's Internet Institute's Project on Computational Propaganda identified "Samhällsnytt" as one of the three primary " junk news" sources in Sweden. [4] [5] [6]
The site and its predecessors is said to have made an impact due to their "relentless reporting on immigrant crime". [1] Samhällsnytt is the successor to the news website Avpixlat ("De-pixelated"), [1] [7] [8] also closely linked to Ekeroth. [9] [10] Avpixlat was labeled a racist hate-site, xenophobic and right-wing extremist by Swedish and international media, [11] [12] while describing itself as "an independent Sweden-friendly website for news and opinions". [13] The site leaned close to the counter-jihad movement and supported Israel. [14] Avpixlat was itself the successor to the news site Politiskt Inkorrekt ("Politically Incorrect"), [1] [15] founded in 2008, [16] which also had close ties to Ekeroth [17] and the counter-jihad movement. [18]
The top three "junk news" sources identified by the study - right-wing websites Samhallsnytt, Nyheter Idag and Fria Tider - accounted for more than 85 percent of the "junk news" content.
The most frequently shared junk news sites — Samhällsnytt, Nyheteridag, and Fria Tider — accounted for 86% of all junk news shares.
( transl. The background to the judgment is a series of articles in which the site, which recently left the media ethics system, published information about a person in the now defunct association Näthatsgranskaren. Samnytt has pointed out the person as reprehensible and criminal, which is the basis for the Stockholm District Court sentencing Mats Dagerlind for two cases of defamation and one case of aggravated defamation.)
I en stämningsansökan inlämnad till Stockholms tingsrätt i förra veckan stämmer en klimataktivist i organisationen Återställ Våtmarker Mats Dagerlind för tre fall av grovt förtal ( transl. In a lawsuit filed with the Stockholm District Court last week, a climate activist in the organization Återställ Våtmarker sues Mats Dagerlind for three counts of aggravated defamation.)
For instance, one writer for Samhallsnytt, who previously worked for the Sweden Democrats, was recently declined parliamentary press accreditation after the security police determined he had been in contact with Russian intelligence.
Samnytt (tidigare Avpixlat) har som Journalisten rapporterat lämnat det medieetiska systemet efter en rad fällningar i Mediernas Etiknämnd. ( transl. Samnytt (formerly Avpixlat) has, as previously reported by Journalisten, left the media ethics system after a series of convictions by the Media Ethics Board.)
