Avdil Jakupi, also spelled Avdyl Jakubi, also known by his nom de guerre "Commander Jackal" ( Albanian: Komandant Çakalli), [1] [2] [3] is an Albanian commander of the Liberation Army of Preševo, Medveđa and Bujanovac (UÇPMB), National Liberation Army (NLA) and Albanian National Army (ANA). [4] [5] His most known engagements were in Lipkovo and Aračinovo during the 2001 insurgency in Macedonia.[ citation needed]
In 2003, Jakupi and fifteen other members of the ANA kidnapped a policemen and bombed front of government buildings. [6] An operation to capture the members was carried out by the Macedonian Army. [6] In 2004, Jakupi surrendered to authorities in Kosovo, [7] were he was sentenced to fourteen years in prison for kidnapping two policemen and attempting to bomb railway lines. [2] [3] [8] [9]
