Asara ( Persian: آسارا) [a] is a city in, and the capital of, Asara District of Karaj County, Alborz province, Iran. [4] It also serves as the administrative center for Asara Rural District. [5] The city is in the Alborz (Elburz) mountain range.
At the time of the 2006 National Census, Asara's population was 430 in 125 households, when it was a village in Tehran province. [6] In February 2009, the village merged with the villages of Pol-e Khvab, Rey Zamin, and Sira in the establishment of the new city of Asara. [7] The 2016 census measured the population as 1,339 people in 452 households, [2] by which time the county had separated from the province and become a part of recently established Alborz province. [8]
