Apsheronsky District ( Russian: Апшеро́нский райо́н) is an administrative district ( raion), one of the thirty-eight in Krasnodar Krai, Russia. [1] As a municipal division, it is incorporated as Apsheronsky Municipal District. [4] It is located in the south of the krai. The area of the district is 2,443.2 square kilometers (943.3 sq mi).[ citation needed] Its administrative center is the town of Apsheronsk. [1] Population: 98,685 ( 2021 Census); [6] 98,891 ( 2010 Russian census); [2] 95,048 ( 2002 Census); [7] 86,059 ( 1989 Soviet census). [8] The population of Apsheronsk accounts for 40.7% of the district's total population. [2]
Apsheronsk narrow-gauge railway, opened in 1927, is the largest mountain railway of its type in Russia.
