Anar ( Persian: انار) [a] is a city in the Central District of Anar County, Kerman province, Iran, and serves as both capital of the county and of the district. [4] Anar means pomegranate in Persian. The city contains a Sassanian castle named Anar Castle.
At the 2006 National Census, its population was 12,791 in 3,227 households, when it was in the former Anar District of Rafsanjan County). [5] The following census in 2011 counted 13,089 people in 3,660 households, [6] by which time the district had been separated from the county in the establishment of Anar County. [4] The latest census in 2016 showed a population of 15,532 people in 4,660 households. [2]
