Alternipathes bipinnata is a species of coral belonging to the family Schizopathidae. [1] It has been found off the Pacific coast of Mexico. [2]
Etymology
The generic name, Alternatipathes, is derived from the Latin alternatus, meaning "alternating", and the suffix pathes, which is commonly used for genera belonging to Antipatharia; the name is in reference to the species' alternating arrangement of pinnules. [3]
The specific epithet derives from the Latin bipinnata, "two pinnates", in reference to the multiple pinnate branches on the species. [2]
