Akin ( /ˈeɪkɪn/) is an unincorporated community in Eastern Township, Franklin County, Illinois, United States. Akin is 9.6 miles (15.4 km) east of Benton and 5.7 miles (9.2 km) north of Thompsonville. Akin had a post office, which closed on July 2, 2011. [2]
The post office had been in operation at Akin since 1860. [3] George W. Aken, the first postmaster, most likely gave the community his name. [4]
