The Thirty-Ninth National Assembly ( Bulgarian: Тридесет и деветото народно събрание) was a convocation of the National Assembly of Bulgaria, formed according to the results of the parliamentary elections in Bulgaria, held on 17 June 2001. [1]
The 39th National Assembly elected the
Sakskoburggotski Government, headed by the former
Tsar of Bulgaria
Simeon Sakskoburggotski and his new
centrist
NDSV party in a coalition with the
DPS, another centrist party.

ODS and the
BSP both declared themselves in opposition to the government.

During the four years of its term, the 40th National Assembly saw Bulgaria become a Member of
NATO and sign its accession treaty to the
European Union.
