Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva announces plans to build a
nuclear-powered submarine to patrol the waters off Brazil's coast at a cost of US$500 million.

Brazil defeats Argentina 3-0 to win the
2007 Copa América . This is Brazil's eighth
Copa America title.

TAM Linhas Aéreas
Flight 3054 carrying 187 people crashes into the company's own cargo depot in
Congonhas International Airport , São Paulo. The crash kills everyone on board and 12 on the ground.
