Helsingborgs IF finished in eighth place, winning 9 out of their 26 league matches. [1] In the Svenska Cupen (national cup) they were knocked out in the RO16, 1–2 by Superettan side Landskrona BoIS. [2] In the UEFA Cup, Helsingborgs entered into the first qualifying round, beating Narva Trans [3]and Drogheda United. In the first round, Helsingborg beat eredivisie side SC Heerenveen 8–6 on aggregate to advance into the group stages, [4]where they placed second, defeating the likes of Galatasaray and Austria Wien. [5] [6]In the Round of 32, they faced PSV Eindhoven who defeated them 1–4 on aggregate. [7]
