I read this article recently: https://www.ozy.com/news-and-politics/this-prolific-nerd-is-shaping-the-future-of-wikipedia/79469/
I know that it is not a new article, and that it is talking about Ser Amantio di Nicolao, the number one editor of all time, to date. What I am interested in is that this editor supposedly made/makes 500+ edits a day, I believe using the AWB (auto wiki browser), which I have applied for. Even so, that seems astronomically high, especially since the next closest editor, BrownHairedGirl, is almost 2,000,000 edits shy of the first place person! I would love to emulate this astonishing productivity! How can it be done? Typos? What is it that can be done to help the encyclopedia at such a rate! TY. Hi, hoping for some advice on attribution. I've been watching and have done some copyediting on Peyman Yazdanian, which is in a bit of a state with unsourced info and formatting issues. An editor has now replaced part of the article with text which I think is copied from the French Wiki here. I have looked at WP:TFOLWP and see that attribution should be given. I have looked at the information on making a dummy edit to do this. Questions: is this something I can do as the user who did not copy the info, given it's a guess on my part, or should I ask the editor who made the change to do it? Is it still appropriate to attribute given I did some (fairly minor) editing to the text before concluding that it had been copied across? Thanks. Tacyarg ( talk) 18:47, 8 September 2022 (UTC)

I've been using reference management software to gather references on the internet to create a Wikipedia article lately. I'm not sure if I'll proceed with trying to create it, I still have some doubts, but is there any place where I can go dump my citations to show to other editors and get opinions and consensus on whether they are suitable for an article? Or rather, is it my responsibility to review the references myself or should I just go make a draft and let the reviewers review the references during submission? hello, it used to be that when you began typing in the search bar, it would show suggestions that contained that string in the article title. but now, it seems to be working on whole-word basis, i.e. when I type "Albert" it shows "Albert", "Alberta municipal elections" (so not whole-word, either) and "Alert and discovery expedition" (which seems super-random.) And when I type in "Matthew," it only shows "Matthew" and some Bible verses ("Matthew X:Y and so on.) Needless to say, this is completely useless. What's going on? Is it just me? I tried in several browsers and on several devices. Is it a bug? Aecho6Ee ( talk) 00:48, 9 September 2022 (UTC)

A customised signature should make it easy to identify your username. This is, of course, open to interpretation, but I don't think many people would reasonably deduce your name from your signature. What might be preferable is to mention that is what you want to be called on your user page, or make
Oopse
less conspicuous in your signature, like in a lighter font. —

Hello,
I'm wondering if it's ok to cite an application for acceptance to the National Register of Historic Places. The application was accepted, so I imagine the information found there is legitimate.
Specifically this has to do with the article Deep Eddy Pool. If it's OK to cite, what is the best way to go about it? Is there a specific template that I should use? The application was prepared by Hannah Swenson with help from Peter Ketter, should they both be listed as authors? I would be grateful if anyone could point me in the right direction on this.

Little is known about his family and upbringingunless you can provide a reference to a reliable source that says that. Otherwise, just leave it out because language like that is a red flag for reviewers. It is not up to you as a Wikipedia editor to conclude that little is known. Our role as Wikipedia editors is to summarize published reliable sources, not to draw our own inferences. Apply the same principle of analysis to every sentence of your draft. Hi, Our company have relaunched an old fashion brand called ST-95 and I'm attempting to create a Wiki page about the brand at Draft:St95. I've carried out quite alot of research on the internet about the history of the brand but the submission declined message reads: should refer to a range of independent, reliable, published sources, not just to materials produced by the creator of the subject being discussed. The references I've submitted are from independent sources should I remove these. The ST-95 brand was quite niche so there is little information available, do you have any advice on how we can do research to get the page published. We are going to have a go at rewriting the article to be more like an Encyclopedia entry.

This question is related to wikinews and not wikipedia. We must all have seen sports articles from ESPN, Bleacher Report etc.. that analyse a situation rather than just write the daily match score. For eg: They wrote articles about the player ratings per match, analyse a player per season and so. I just wished to know if I could create similar articles in Wikinews or if it was just a daily news platform. Have a good day.

I was looking to add information to Abraham a Sancta Clara from his Encyclopaedia Judaica entry. Sancta Clara's article is overwhelmingly positive and in praise of him, and links to the Catholic Encyclopedia (and also the Chambers Biographical Dictionary, which is probably a reliable source). On the other hand, the Judaica entry describes him as an "anti-Jewish propagandist." talk) 07:02, 11 September 2022 (UTC)Hi, I'm not sure if I am in the right area but I have a question regarding a user routinely deleting birth details from biographies of living subjects and citing WP:DOB in the notes. As I discovered with their edit to Cliff Richard, that particular rule was completely irrelevant.
I started a discussion with the user to try and understand their reasoning and they subsequently cited WP:BLP and stated "If the DOB is widely known, then add it back with a WP:RS supporting it as a WP:CITE." Therefore, the basis for removing the birth details appears to be the lack of a citation instead of privacy concerns.

Hello, I had a question about what kind of pages I can contribute to. I usually do topics like index, surveys, climate, country rankings in various reports, research reports, citizenship, passport etc.. Today, while editing a page OECD - /info/en/?search=OECD, I navigated to Mathias Cormann - /info/en/?search=Mathias_Cormann. I added the same citation on his page too as it was common for OECD and Mathias Cormann. Since, I don't usually do for people, I was in two minds if I should do add the citation on the page or not. But, as per what i had read in WP:BRD, when in doubt, edit the page. So, I made an edit on the page by adding the citation. My question is that am I only supposed to make edits to one type of page (like index etc..) or I can make to different kind of pages too? Thank you. ANLgrad ( talk) 04:57, 11 September 2022 (UTC)

More generally, I often encounter situations like these when trying to get started on an article. Since I don’t yet have a clue, I’m a bit hesitant to do big sweeping things without first discussing it on the talk page. However, the talk page is empty so I’m not sure another human is going to look at it. Hello Teahouse, I have a moral conundrum to deal with and I ask for your help.
I saw an article translated from a non-English Wikipedia article. At first glance, it might seem like a spectacular, extremely well-edited, long, and detailed article on art and history. After an evaluation, however, it is clear that, by the standards of the English Wikipedia, the original article was full of problems, which were imported into the English version:
Simply put, the article fails WP:HOWTRANS badly.
My moral conundrum is: it is clear that the editor has put his heart and blood into creating a long article that would be very difficult to "fix". The essay tone is so pervasive that extensive rewriting and research of good sources may be needed. Can you suggest a way to handle this situation without causing trauma to the poor editor? ► LowLevel73 (talk) 21:09, 9 September 2022 (UTC)

When adding a citation from a news source from a website that are not 'newspapers' like CNN or BBC does it make a difference whether I use the 'news' or 'web' citation? Is one preferred over the other? Absolutely Certainly ( talk) 22:09, 11 September 2022 (UTC)
{{cite}}
templates, i.e. web, news, book, and journal. Then generally I will adjust the parameter names. For instance, if you use cite news, it might use the work parameter (I don't remember for sure, but this is amore generic term). But I might change it to newspaper (after doing insert) just to have it be more descriptive. In particular, if it's actually a press release, I'll change it from "cite web" to "cite press release" (which then adds "press release" following the title). As to your specific question about newspapers, if the source is a web site for a "traditional newspaper", then I'll use "cite news" and change "work=" to "newspaper=", if it's the online version of a "traditional magazine", then I will change it "cite magazine" and "magazine=". So in many cases, they only affect what somebody using the source editor sees and have no effect on what's displayed, it's the fairly exceptional case as with "press release" that it affects what's displayed when viewing the article rather than editing it, but the fact is that this is mostly just a matter of personal preference.

while repairing nbsp accidents(i.e. when "nbsp" is by accident displayed in the read view), i found some very confusing names of references: Names including "This website is for sale" in the articles Brace (singer), Piedmont Henry Hospital, List of museums in Ticino, and Terra Nova 1260HP diesel hydraulic locomotive. The same in French ("site web est à vendre") in Jupiter (factory), and the same in German ("Diese; Website steht zum Verkauf!") in List of South Korean festivals. I do not know how to behave in these cases, but i think that this is not the desired kind of references in Wikipedia. Can any experienced en Wikipedian adopt these cases? Thank you in advance. Hello,
My article submission for the Hot Club of San Francisco (link below) was rejected by a reviewer because it was not adequately supported by reliable sources. I'm thankful for the speedy review and respect Wikipedia's policies to ensure the veracity of information. I (now) understand that the Hot Club of San Francisco's website is not a verifiable source and have removed it, however I would really appreciate some clarity/specifics on my remaining sources and/or the info they pertain to. Would it be possible to look at my article and identify some potentially problematic sources/statements? Anything you can point out that you think would make the article submission adhere to Wikipedia's standards (and make it more likely to be accepted) would help. Thank you so much!

Hi! I am trying to get a draft posted on Wikipedia: /info/en/?search=Draft:Anthony_Chase_(entrepreneur)
I am not Anthony Chase, nor am I hired by him to post it. He is a really successful self-made entrepreneur from my hometown. The first couple of times it was rejected was because of not having reliable sources - but I've gone through the citations over and over and can't understand what I'm doing wrong or why these aren't reliable sources (all third party legitimate media articles).
The most recent rejection was because it 'read like an advertisement'. I haven't drastically changed the content, and this is the first time it was brought up. I am a former reporter and don't understand this comment at all.
Can someone please help me better understand what I need to do, in a clear way, to get this posted? Thank so much for your help! Hhuften ( talk) 16:41, 12 September 2022 (UTC)

Dear TeaHouse friendly crowd:
I created my first article about Anna Frajlich, a Polish-American woman poet who taught in Columbia and who is considered to be one of the finest Polish poets of her generation. There is an article about her in Polish Wikipedia. Because she is an emigre writer, there is not much written about her in the mainstream American press, but a WHOLE LOT in the emigre and academic press, all of them verifiable sources. In fact, in 2022 the whole issue of "Polish Review" was dedicated exclusively to her. I submitted my draft twice and it was rejected twice because of the lack of verifiable sources, but because much of academic press is behind the paywall and much of emigre press is not digitized, my citations are perceived as unverifiable.
I am not sure how to overcome this obstacle. Please advise! Thank you! MatrosMonk ( talk) 20:30, 13 September 2022 (UTC)

Hello!
I believe that there has been stonewalling on a BLP article by motivated editors to maintain status quo and foreclose discussion. For the sake of argument, assuming that there is in fact stonewalling and this can be reasonably demonstrated, what would next steps be?
Context:
Stonewalling tactics have included hostility to new editors who raise questions about status quo, premature attempts to close discussion with a close tag, tag-teaming, claims of consensus when the last rfc was no-consensus; subverting normal processes, like archiving and notifications of discretionary sanctions, in order to intimidate new editors; and no apparent intention to concede or come to consensus, among others. I believe this can be well demonstrated in the history of subject's talk page.
To be clear, this is not a content dispute, but a conduct dispute. Regarding the content itself, I have an opinion, but it is weakly held; and about the subject, I have no opinion whatsoever. Unfortunately, even discussing the topic has been disrupted, repeatedly, apparently for years.
I want to understand the process in its entirety before even deciding if I want to get into it. I'm not asking for opinions on whether it is happening, and I'm not linking to the article in order to keep focus on the process on an abstract level, and if I decide it's too much effort, I want to walk away without drama!
As an aside, if I might speculate, I think the stonewallers believe sincerely that the subject holds such reprehensible and probably genocidal views that full discussion is a dangerous information hazard. To them, rather than revealing truth, neutral POV is a dangerous obstacle to truth in this specific case.
Thoughts?

revealing truthseems to be a telling phrase (in this rather oblique comment about the Graham Linehan article, an article that follows the reliable sources while following WP:NPOV rather carefully). I would encourage the IP (and Rendall) to examine WP:NOTTRUTH in that context, as well as WP:RGW, which seem relevant to their motivations rather more than they reflect the motivations of editors supporting that article's status quo. Newimpartial ( talk) 15:33, 12 September 2022 (UTC)
Comment - unless an editor has been editing another editor's comments, which I do not believe to be the case, this section is about Graham Linehan and continues the aspersions cast in this Talk section.
I'm INVOLVED, of course, but I do not believe any STONEWALLING to have taken place on that article. Rather, what I see is editors who disagree with the current consensus on that page but who engage in WP:SEALIONing or Wikilawyering rather than proposing an RfC or other process to change the sources, status quo, policy-compliant article text that offends their sensibilities. Perspectives on this differ, of course. Newimpartial ( talk) 15:15, 12 September 2022 (UTC)

I'm trying to post a biography of a living person -- a woman documentary photographer named Mary Motley Kalergis (See Draft: Mary Motley Kalergis) She's had numerous books published by major publishing houses (Harper, Dutton, etc.), had photographic exhibitions around the world, and her work has appeared in many publications (New York Times, Time, etc.) It's pretty obvious that she is the real deal, but I understand that Wikipedia has its rules and standards. The most concise way to get a handle on her biography is, of course, her own Webpage, but that is not kosher. The next best way is her Amazon page, which contains links to her many published books, many of which were published quite a while ago. But independent sources are scarce although there is a recent reference to her in the New York Times, also a link to her award from the American Library Association for "Best Young Adult book of 2000: Seen and Heard: Teenagers Talk About Their Lives." John Coate (born ca. 1951) is an American pioneer in creating online communities.. What does "pioneer" mean? Nothing, but it elicits warm feelings in the reader (that’s the plan, anyway). Cisnedenieve - This is English Wikipedia. The links you provided are to content as Spanish Wikipedia (es.wikipedia). You have to raise your objections there. IF the content in question was at English Wikipedia, an article about a person does not require authorization from that person. Also, attempts at autobiography are not recommended (but not forbidden). If there are errors in the article, you would be advised to propose changes on the Talk page of the article rather than editing the article directly. The Bee Branch Creek is a waterway found in Dubuque, Iowa that flows into the Mississippi River. The drainage basin covers 50% of Dubuque's population or business. The city has modified it multiple times over the years to combat flooding. Along the creek are trails and playground equipment. The restoration project is expected to cost $230 million.. In the first sentence, "found" is extraneous. It implies that people need to go searching for it. The second sentence is strange because drainage basins are usually defined by geographic area instead of population or business. Did you mean "businesses"? The third sentence introduces some possibly notable content but does not follow through. The fourth sentence shifts dramatically to landscaping and playground matters, which I perceive as jarring and unwarranted. The fifth sentence addresses one restoration project as if it is the only one even though we are told in the third sentence that there have been multiple projects. We learn nothing about what the project hopes to accomplish, how it compares to previous projects, and only its projected budget. Those five sentences do not hold together as a coherent overview of the topic. Cullen328 ( talk) 04:37, 16 September 2022 (UTC)

I recently added a subsection to an existing article, with a main article crossref at the start. The copy that I added was a short précis of the main article's key loints as it related to the article I was editing, but did not include the citations from the main article (Those in turn were named references so a simple cut/paste wasn't possible.
My addendum was reverted wholesale citing the lack of RS (while the linked main article is chokka with them), and I can't help but feel that it was a heavy-handed revert. More specifically, since the article in question involves religious critique of a sort, my WP:AGF-o-meter is flatlining, if you get my drift.
The referencing guide is not clear on how to handle this kind of cross-refencing situation. Any advice? Thanks!

Hello there!
I am seeking assistance on behalf of Newfold Digital (who is paying me, as their direct employee, to make edits, as disclosed on my user page) in updating our presence on the site to more accurately reflect our company’s structure with a properly-sourced article written from the ground up to describe our large web presence business and list our prominent subsidiaries.
I don’t think making edits to the current article will suffice, as it is simply a relabeled Endurance International Group (EIG) article, whereas Newfold Digital is comprised of several companies/company groups and is a new entity formed from those companies, rather than a rebranded EIG.
With that in mind, I am seeking to have that article reverted to merely describe the legacy EIG holdings and include a link to a new Newfold Digital article, which I would like to write and build out in a coherent and informative manner, without advertising/selling or reducing the article to a timeline of acquisitions.
I would love to partner with an experienced editor to help make these changes, and would greatly appreciate feedback from any editors who can guide me in the proper course of action.
I feel that Newfold Digital is a significant company and will be of interest to readers in the technology space, given the prominent companies in its portfolio, and am willing to spend whatever amount of time and effort is necessary to create an article that both matches Wikipedia’s standards and describes the company in a neutral way.
I would greatly appreciate any advice or direction the Wikipedia community is willing to provide! NewfoldComms ( talk) 16:20, 16 September 2022 (UTC)

I have a problem. You can see it if you go to the Discography section of the article for Beat Happening. The last entries in both the Compilation and Singles sub-categories evince a short dash, but the page uses long dashes. Search as I might, I can't find a long dash on my keyboard. Maybe it's antiquated, or maybe there's a secret virtual keyboard accessible only after a certain number of edits a la the Wikipedia Library. A delayed response -- sorry, but I've been away from the interwebs -- to Wikipedia:Teahouse/Questions/Archive_1164#Finding_Independent_Resources, on Draft:Mary Motley Kalergis, and more specifically to CrystlBluPersuason's request at the end of that:
Flattery much appreciated!
The draft has problems of formatting, but let's put them aside for now.
Perhaps most pressing issues are those of copyright, raised when you write, or cause to be written, "Uploaded a work by Mary Motley Kalergis from Hardcopy of [such and such] provided by the artist, along with Creative Commons CC0 Waiver. with UploadWizard". Unless I misunderstand utterly, "the artist" is Kalergis. Informing Commons of this CC0 Waiver is a job for her alone, I believe. Though for File:Mary Kalergis.jpg it's for William Campbell. (Incidentally, concerning File:Diafarmma Kodak Gallery Exhibit invitation.jpg, it's "Diaframma", not "Diafarmma".)
Secondly, while the draft is bristling with (appreciative) commentary from people (notably fellow photographers) whose freely expressed opinions on photography mean something, where these comments come from isn't specified, so they'd be classed as unreferenced. A number of them read like blurbs: comments served up at the publisher or author's request. Blurbs won't hack it. Very unfortunately, there's not much of a culture of thinking reviews of photobooks (I haven't seen the New York Review of Books or even the New Yorker recently, but I don't think that either reviews any); however, I'd have thought that somewhere " reliable", some of her exhibitions and shows would have been reviewed.
And lastly (for now), "she pursues her passion for foxhunting on horseback" means no more than "she hunts foxes", I think.
So, is Kalergis "notable" (as notability is, perhaps perversely, defined by and for Wikipedia)? I'd guess that there is evidence somewhere out there that, if you could only find it and cite it precisely, would show that yes she is. -- Hoary ( talk) 07:14, 17 September 2022 (UTC)
Hello@ Stuartyeates
Could you please help check which references you need for publishing this article?
The four references are the footnotes for the quotations found in the article. The fifth one is a Book ( ISBN 957-561-172-1) for the Category of Sacred Catholic Music of this draft: Draft:Roman Catholic Church Accompanist.
I've found an English page that has some proof of the Accompanist (Church Musician): These musicians often accompany the church choir or congregation during the singing of hymns. Here's the link FYI: https://www.musicalexpert.org/what-is-a-church-musician.htm
Could you please let me know where to add it to the footnotes as References?
Do you need any other English copies for the references?
Your help would be much appreciated.
Please let me know.

I have edited Stephenson, but it will not allow me to change 'Brooksby Melton College'.

Gay Liberation1970.jpg
was uploaded yesterday, if you want to have it deleted, you can put {{SD|G7|your reason here}}
at the top of the
commons file page. The article underwent many improvements, has many footnotes, is based on reliable and verifiable sources, especially from the most important newspapers Maariv, Yediot Aharonot, Haaretz etc and other well known written media in Israel, it s true most of them in Hebrew, but this is the language in that West-Asian country. it is true that radiobroadcasting is now a more neglected domain, and sources about radio broadcasting in the years 1990-2000 are not many, there are in newspapers, in some books, and someones also in youtube (the voice of the broadcaster and narrator) that are not accepted in wikipedia. The article is about a radio personality, interviewer and author of scientific and cultural programs very appreciated in Israel for a long period of time, also an appreciated translator of English and American literature (which would be a significant item for English Wikipedia)- including literature for children and poetry (among the sources are mentioned reviews by important Israeli writers, who appreciated his translations, published in serious publishing houses. It seems not so fair not to accept this article in the English wikipedia. The article exists in the Hebrew Wikipedia and in the Romanian Wikipedia which have good standards. This might sound nit-picky, but for example Jonathan Edwards is identified as 'American' even though no such country existed when he was born, but Ukrainian Engineer Stephen Timoshenko is identified in the opening paragraph of the text of his article as 'Russian' because Ukraine was occupied by Imperial Russia at the time of his birth. When you search 'Timoshenko' the choice for him is 'Ukrainian Engineer' which I think is more correct. Being somewhat familiar with his work and story before I read the Wikipedia article, I'd always thought of him as Ukrainian. I think there are some similar inconsistencies with the biography of Sholem Aleichem. Are there any guidelines for what nationality historical persons are primarily identified as?

Hello,
I'm wondering if it's ok to cite an application for acceptance to the National Register of Historic Places.

On the other hand, the Judaica entry describes him as an "anti-Jewish propagandist." As I discovered with their edit to Cliff Richard, that particular rule was completely irrelevant.

{{cite}}
templates, i.e. web, news, book, and journal.

My father Samuel Washington Hopkins was born on December 22nd, 1915. He graduated from Richmond High School (Morton High School) in January of 1934. He was a musician (alto saxaphone) who later played with several big bands (17 musicians): The Dixie Rhythm Boys; Chic Carter Band; Ethel Waters Band, with her husband Eddie Mallory as the band leader (trumpet); and Lucky Millinder, thus, traveling all over the United States. Hello,
My article submission for the Hot Club of San Francisco (link below) was rejected by a reviewer because it was not adequately supported by reliable sources.

Gay Liberation1970.jpg
was uploaded yesterday, if you want to have it deleted, you can put {{SD|G7|your reason here}}
at the top of the
commons file page.
