I understand your effective idea about a collaboration over skype, however I would prefer if we remained using the talk pages of our respective user pages, Is that ok?

Although there have been some edits since your 12 december 2012 edit of the nuclear power page, the material removed has not been replaced, nor has there been any concrete reason for its removal. Instead user: mojo chan has simply denied they were important edits(although what could be more important than the safety record of nuclear power in terms of lives life per unit of electricity delivered?), and Mojochan has displayed the unreasonable decision that everything positive about nuclear power could only possible be from industry shills'. With this term being used for the entire EU apparently, along with many independent universities.

Obviously this guy is not exactly playing with a full deck.

@ Boundarylayer - Well, to make sure judges come from all political viewpoints, the political parties have to propose candidate judges according to the number of votes they got in the elections. So if there are 3 parties in a country - party 1 holds 10% of the votes; party 2 holds 20% of the votes and party 3 holds 70% of the votes - and you need 10 judges, then 1 judge will come from the list proposed by party 1, 2 judges will come from the list by party 2, and 7 from the list of candidates from party 3. Of course, if there are some candidates who have such a good reputation that they are even preferred over the own candidates, it is possible that the party 3 prefers to vote for a judge from the list of candidates proposed by party 1. Congratulations on your appointment to the court Sven! Is it enjoyable work? I once voted for the Green party here in Ireland, but have since not voted again. What may interest you is I recently added a section quoting the OECD on the nuclear power page that may answer some of the initial Uranium resources questions you previously had.

I also added a section to the Life-cycle greenhouse-gas emissions of energy sources on the amount of CO2 emitted from nuclear power plants, that you might also find illuminating. Another document that I found particularly insightful was the ExternE pol studies conducted by the EU in partnership with the university of Stuttgart, it objectively analyzed all scalable energy sources and their impact on the environment. http://www.externe.info/externe_d7/

Having looked at your linkedin.com page I feel compelled to agree with you, in regards to the policy of expanding the use of all environmental and economically conscience technologies. I have helped review designs of local farmers plug type anaerobic digestors/biogas generators for agriculture in the past(all design and priming, no messy hands on work thankfully!) and we should endeavour to cut down on waste at every opportunity, but only when it's safe and economical to do so. Sadly however, there have been a number of deaths from falling into anaerobic/biogas pits here in Ireland, and for the energy produced, these deaths should have been entirely avoidable by using safer more reliable technologies, such as Wind and Nuclear power, I have since lost interest in helping review biogas plant design for this reason. As the farmers were not willing to fit the necessary safety equipment, because it would have cost them too much(A point that I agree with in part) What got you interested in nuclear power?

@ Boundarylayer The whole discussion on the energy mix. In the European Union there we have a portal site where all the federation of energy technology providers and governmental research institutes come together and put the ball mark figures for their sector: https://setis.ec.europa.eu Also, I did my dissertation in the governmental research institute of the Belgian government / Flanders, where also the Belgian research institute on nuclear energy is hosted. I had the privilege having lunch and becoming friends with some of the "old generation" who were into nuclear power. These guys had a very "hippy"mentality. They really believed they had found eternal / cheap energy for all. A lot of the "Green" technologies were invented as spin-outs by those teams. E.g. imagine you have near to free abundant energy: why not put some in the ground layers some hundreds of meters below and pump it up again in winter? You could have greenhouses producing food just about everywhere in cold climates. Anyway, I ran into some discussions that with all the hunger for energy, and all the intentions to build nuclear power plants in China, India, Turkey, you name it, that there would not be enough nuclear fission material. So I was trying to find more info on how much uranium / yellow cake reserve there is on our planet and how fast we would burn through it, so to speak. I had hoped there would be more on it here on the wikipedia, but alas, nothing. :) I'll have to wait another couple of months or years. I only get into this tangentially professionally. I just know enough to know that the energy issue is worth a whole Directorate General in the EU and that it is a full time job to follow things, keep the ball mark figures in mind etc. I don't have that time. Hi, I've tried to adjust your addition to the Afghanistan page to bring more in line with wikipedia policies, and to not appear to be criticizing the government by saying that people are needed to write letters to pressure them. I haven't been able to find direct support for the statements that you made in the citation about 5000 laptops and the anonymous donor, so could you please point to those more explicitly (perhaps on my talk page)? It also isn't clear to me whether the http://wiki.laptop.org site is one that anyone, even someone such as me, could edit; if it is, then it may be necessary (to avoid having the wikipedia information deleted) to get other sources as well, even simple newspaper articles. Well, you're contributing by helping me with the paragraph. But to second your reflection: Wouldn't it be so much more helpful if these presidents / ministers of education / military would answer why they don't want/can't invest 135€/xo laptop+30 €/PV panel=165 €/laptopschool. 7 yrs average life time = 23€/yrs.kid. The XO can carry 1000 ebooks, and the touch screen and trackpad are a substitute for paper. So you have ALL the books of a whole school career on every XO and hundreds of other useful books, e.g. on how to repair a bike, how to make a more efficient stove, use a car electricity generator to generate electricity via a little river, books on hygiene, etc. all that stuff is often made and available on websites of UNICEF, EuropAid, USAid, etc. 23€/yrs.kid = a couple of these big bullets, they're firing by the hundreds. Anyway.

P.S.: if you are in contact with people at the OLPC wiki, you might mention that this page is sadly misleading, and OLPC XO-3 gets its information from there. It says that the XO-3 was cancelled, but there is apparently something called the XO tablet that is mass produced, as mentioned here and particularly here. It would be good to get pointers to the current model on these pages, rather than just "The XO-3 is a tablet by OLPC that was cancelled in late 2012.[1] The next planned OLPC hardware release is the XO-4 laptop, a successor to the XO-1.75 and due in 2013." So about wikipedia tricks: I have added your talk page to my watch list. Actually, I have set an option in Preferences (under the Watchlist tab) that every page I edit is automatically added to my watch list (then I have to take some of them off, or it becomes unmanageable). Sorry that my explanation of ping was inadequate. Have a look at Template:Reply to (which also goes by the name ping) and Wikipedia:Templates. Mostly, I think we learn these things by having seen them used somewhere, so learning speeds up as time goes on.

About the XO tablet, I've added some material at OLPC XO-1#XO Tablet, and added a redirect so that you can get there from XO tablet. I've also changed OLPC_XO-3 so that it the XO-4, which also ended, doesn't seem to be the only successor. (By the way, I mentioned this to a computer science professor that I know, who said that he believed that OLPC had lost momentum and been bypassed by the technology, so it seems quite important to make these little corrections in wikipedia.) First of all, I want you to realize that I am being sincere when I say that I appreciate your contributions and your interest on this type of educational program. But the information you included here, at least, in the way you presented it, is not material for an encyclopedia ( WP:NOT). Actually, it is tantamount to advocacy ( WP:ADVOCACY). I noticed you have been through several pages and doing the same things, which meets the traits of spam ( WP:SPAM). There might be an article where this might fit properly, but not on these ones, and not in the way you include it. Moreover, including new information about what an organization's work and then solely citing the organization's own page is not good practice either. An encyclopedia relies on independent sources ( WP:RS) and would cite the organization's page only if it is strictly necessary (e.g. citing or referring to the information from the cite like mission statements). If you find an article where this information could fit properly, however, then the organization's page might go in the external links section, but only if it is directly relevant to the article. This is not the case in none of the articles you added such info. Please, let me know if this makes sense. I would gladly hear and weight your arguments. Also, cutting and pasting the same "See Also"'s across several subjects as you did introduced a lot of duplicated or unrelated topics. War and Holocaust issues are distinct from Slavery, conflating the two is problematic.

Linking to "reparation" and a category of reparation or similar is appropriate and I would expect all forms of reparation to be included within such a category if it existed, as all related matters should be associated with the category. The See also section is great for bringing in topics that could be within the main body, but didn't fit the topic enough to do so. So WW2 and WW1 is a good link, as would be similar post war reparations or outcomes of reparations. However slavery has a very distinct topic (it tends to be economic or social), I would say something like the Japanese use of POW and Comfort Women for instance would be a rare occasion where the two were linked vaguely. @Koncorde : As per /info/en/?search=Portal:Contents/Categories "Categories (along with other features like cross-references, lists, and infoboxes) help you to find information, even if you don't know what exists or what it's called." I'd interpret that as being more tolerant towards the use of categories and the "See Also" section. Reparation is at the center of 2 decades we are living in 1: 2011-2020 http://www.un.org/en/decolonization/thirdinternatldecade.shtml and 2: 2015-2025 www.un.org/en/events/africandescentdecade/ . People are looking for arguments used in similar cases - s.a. the reparations the Holocaust victims won, the reparations by WWI and WWII victims/states. Reparations are the (usually) financial compensations for some act. Political Correctness is not about reparations, and in fact requires no actions to have taken place (it's about language and social constructs). I would say something like Affirmative Action is the only element even close to being associated with reparations (but we should be careful with linking stuff like Holocaust with Affirmative Action). The article states "This article has multiple issues. Please help improve it." Adding a number on the size of corruption didn't seem like a bad idea. You erased it. Including where the number came from: the UN Anti Corruption unit. Quoting is ok - I read the guidelines on quoted. Where did I go wrong?

I think I do rephrase things, I understand it is ok to do quotes, and here in the article on corruption the part that I quoted could be considered minor as the article is long enough: I only added 730 characters in total . What happened to the wikipedia guideline of ""Be polite, and welcoming to new users", "Assume good faith"? As someone who has +500 edits on wikipedia, I feel being bullied and threatened rather than helped. So can you mail me the changes so I can go over them again to learn from my mistakes?

Seryozha Aleshkov is famous for carrying the title of the youngest soldier who participated in the Battle of Stalingrad. He's often portrayed in his little military uniform at the age of 6 years in 1942. During a fight, he saved the life of a regimental commander and was rewarded the for combat service for his courage and bravery. His example continous to inspire numerous people today. Little Sergey was found walking in the forest by Soviet troops and got adopted by one of the officers. During battles he helped with bringing ammunition. Later he became wounded during Stalingrad battle and sent to hospital. He never went back to the fields of war. When he grew up, he became a lawyer. Sergey died in 1990, one year before Soviet Union collapsed. This is an assist for a kick-start article. I couldn't find one.

I reverted the categories that you added to Learning styles because the categories implied that Learning styles is software, but clearly Learning styles is not software.

Then I looked at your other recent edits, and I am also reverting the categories that you added to Epistemology and Formal fallacy because it appears that you are overcategorizing ( WP:OVERCAT) and not thinking carefully enough about the existing placement of the articles in subcategories. Per WP:CAT, articles generally do not go in a parent category when they are already in a subcategory. For example, Epistemology is already in Category:Epistemology which is a subcategory of Category:Philosophy via Category:Branches of philosophy‎, so it is not correct to put Epistemology in Category:Philosophy. In a number of your recent uses of the {{ help}} template, it seems that you are using the template in an inappropriate way, that is, not as a way to ask for help in how to edit Wikipedia. Further, some of your talk page entries seemed to verge on trying to use the page as a forum with the help template intended to attract attention of interested editors to a suggestion or query about a topic. Perhaps one of these would have been a proper discussion to hold on a WikiProject talk page, where less specific suggestions can be entertained; suggestions for new content on article talk pages should by quite specific, even if they are not entirely ready to insert into the article verbatim. There is also the Teahouse and the reference desk for more question and answer when an article talk page does not seem to be getting attention.

SvenAERTS, Well, that's a rather alarmist interpretation, but roughly speaking, yes. This aspect of the help template is not particularly well documented, but the template documentation does instruct you to use it on your own user talk page.

The restriction on using it for editing help as opposed to content suggestions is, I think, to direct the limited resources of admins and other helpers at IRC, who monitor the use of this template, to places where the help needed is about "how to edit". When you write "I just turned off GoogleTrans when you are editing a page.", - you mean for you, right? Or did you change something in the coding of the gadget?

And of course I'll keep an eye if I see any unintended consequences.

Thank you. The {{ copied}} template on the talk page is good practice, but the edit summary part is the only part that's required in this, and it's pretty simple – next time you copy text from one article to another, just use an edit summary like the sample one above. You can't go back and edit previous edit summaries, but in this case I made a dummy edit where I made a super minor change (that doesn't actually affect anything in the article) for the purposes of leaving that additional edit summary. Hi, I noticed your recent minor edit to Indo-European languages, and I just thought you might find it interesting that barely more than a century ago, they were essentially the same field, where writing and speech were both equally parts of it—we often credit the Brothers Grimm as pioneers in comparative linguistics, but they were mostly doing philology, that's what they called it, it was a very German field. The English and French sort of split linguistics as we understand it off in the late 1910s and 20s, Ferdinand de Saussure is the poster child of that.

Sorry for the totally unsolicited infodump, I just mean to say that—when you said you weren't sure of the difference between philology and linguistics, no one was until pretty recently! I'm still not quite sure that I know the difference. Remsense 诉 10:05, 6 April 2024 (UTC) reply
