Congratulations, Tails Wx! The list you nominated, List of Chicago Bears first-round draft picks, has been promoted to featured status, recognizing it as one of the best lists on Wikipedia. The nomination discussion has been archived.
This is a rare accomplishment and you should be proud. If you would like, you may nominate it to appear on the Main page as Today's featured list. Keep up the great work! Cheers, PresN ( talk) via FACBot ( talk) 12:25, 12 February 2024 (UTC) reply

Thank you for this one, and improving more quality articles in February. - The image, taken on a cemetery last year after the funeral of a distant but dear family member, commemorates today, with thanks for their achievements, four subjects mentioned on the Main page and Vami_IV, a friend here. Listen to music by Tchaikovsky (an article where one of the four is pictured), sung by today's subject (whose performance on stage I enjoyed two days ago). -- (forgot to sign)

more music and flowers on Rossini's rare birthday -- Gerda Arendt ( talk) 18:05, 29 February 2024 (UTC) reply

Interesting, Gerda Arendt! I gave Petite messe solennelle a read; and the opening of the piece seems very, very quiet according to the image! Of course, if I were to play this right now I'd absolutely fail. :P ~ Tails Wx ( 🐾, me!) 21:10, 29 February 2024 (UTC) reply

Question from Halfsquareprints (10:18, 19 February 2024)

Hi, I had a quick question about citations. How many citations would you say is required for a given article. I originally listed multiple citations but recently had some of them removed because apparently they weren't all credible. What would be some examples of credible citations if the person I'm writing an article about is an up and coming actor? -- Halfsquareprints ( talk) 10:18, 19 February 2024 (UTC) reply

Hello, @ Thefatherferret770!
For your first question about the amount of references required for an article, there really isn't. Instead, there should be a reliable reference verifying each sentence (or paragraph) with information in the article, especially if the material is likely to be challenged and if the person is subject to the biographies of living persons policy.
The reason why the citations you added were removed on Zachary Garmers is because they were either unreliable (such as the Daily Mail source removed here – that source is deprecated, as well as the IMDb sources removed here – they're unreliable per WP:IMDB) or failed to verify content in the article (such as this removal, in which those two sources don't mention the subject).
If you're going to write a notable actor, you should use reliable, in-depth, published sources that have significant coverage of the subject to establish notability of the subject. If those don't exist, then the subject isn't reliable, sadly. I don't think the subject also meets notability guidelines for actors, given that the subject likely has not had significant roles in films or made unique, prolific or innovative contributions to a field of entertainment. And unfortunately, there's no sources to establish notability of the subject (although there is a Rotten Tomatoes source mentioning him – but that source is not in-depth in its coverage and thus does not establish notability of the subject), and thus the article is nominated at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Zachary Garmers. ~ Tails Wx ( 🐾, me!) 18:43, 19 February 2024 (UTC) reply

Hello, @ JANASHVILI! I'm not quite sure what you mean by "I write information in wikipedia and this was and that was very little text, wikipedia tell me abt that and I add some information but in the page still is warning and this page can be deleted". Can you please clarify? Thanks! ~ Tails Wx ( 🐾, me!) 19:21, 22 February 2024 (UTC) reply
I wrote a small article about the Janashvili family, Wikipedia put a template on my page saying that the article might be deleted because the information was insufficient, so I added the information, but there is still a deletion warning template on this page. Please help me and tell me what to do about this JANASHVILI ( talk) 19:25, 22 February 2024 (UTC) reply

WikiCup 2024 March newsletter

The first round of the 2024 WikiCup ended at 23:59 (UTC) on 27 February. Everyone with at least 30 points moved on to Round 2, the highest number of points required to advance to the second round since 2014. Due to a six-way tie for the 64th-place spot, 67 contestants have qualified for Round 2.

The following scorers in Round 1 all scored more than 300 points:

In this newsletter, the judges would like to pay a special tribute to Vami_IV ( submissions), who unfortunately passed away this February. At the time of his death, he was the second-highest-scoring competitor. Outside the WikiCup, he had eight other featured articles, five A-class articles, eight other good articles, and two Four Awards. Vami also wrote an essay on completionism, a philosophy in which he deeply believed. If you can, please join us in honoring his memory by improving one of the articles on his to-do list.

Remember that any content promoted after 27 February but before the start of Round 2 can be claimed in Round 2. Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page. Remember, if two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points. If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed. If you want to help out with the WikiCup, feel free to review one of the nominations listed on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed. Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages. Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove your name from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. Rossini's Petite messe solennelle was premiered on 14 March 1864, - when I listen to the desolate Agnus Dei I think of [[User talk:Vami IV#Rose of missing|Vami]. -- Gerda Arendt ( talk) 23:03, 14 March 2024 (UTC) reply

Cool! Also, for the GA review on Petite messe solennelle, you mentioned a possible FA review–looking forward to that soon! :) ~ Tails Wx ( 🐾, me!) 02:14, 15 March 2024 (UTC) reply
Did I? Long ago, probably before I ran into trouble with Bach cantatas. But good idea, in general ;) - What you could review is on the page WP:ITNN, also quite generally. I have three nominations there, but look around for others, all in need of interest and comments. They call it "recent deaths" and then waiting for support makes it no longer recent ;) - I uploaded vacation pics - see places, most recently a calf in the mist and chocolate cake, and a story of collaboration (and yes, about one of the "recent" deaths). -- Gerda Arendt ( talk) 21:12, 27 March 2024 (UTC) reply
Oh, yeah. At least a week's enough to make it recent! Anyway, good work on updating the ITN-nominated articles, @ Gerda Arendt! I did recently have an article posted on the Main Page ( M. Emmet Walsh) that took a ton of effort to complete – though it's worth it for points in the WikiCup! ~ Tails Wx ( 🐾, me!) 22:36, 27 March 2024 (UTC) reply
Thank you, and yes he finally appeared. I realized after posting that I don't have to tell you how RD works. I do it since 2019, for the memory of the people I cherish (and some where I'm qualified because of German sources, and some because they are women - underrepresented). Thank you for the ton of effort for Walsh! - I had wonderful help for Pollini and specifically the piece (that I had nominated for DYK in 2019, did you see?). -- Gerda Arendt ( talk) 05:54, 28 March 2024 (UTC) reply
Oh, cool! I've done ITN since last year, Craig Breedlove was the first one I received credit for. Now, I saw your DYK, and I was astonished at the fact that ... sofferte onde serene ... started with both periods and lowercase letters! What an interesting title! And good work on Maurizio Pollini with MONTENSEM; it's unfortunate that the Italian pianist passed away. :( ~ Tails Wx ( 🐾, me!) 21:31, 28 March 2024 (UTC) reply

DYK for 1997 Spring Creek flood

On 4 March 2024, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article 1997 Spring Creek flood, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that during the 1997 Spring Creek flood, a railroad embankment suppressing 8,250 cubic feet (234 m3) of water per second overflowed, causing a train to derail? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/1997 Spring Creek flood. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page ( here's how, 1997 Spring Creek flood), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Also, I can't really give an answer for what sources have "the best references" for weather-related articles, but if you're looking for what sources are reliable, I think sources such as the National Weather Service, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, and even local media and news sources that cover weather information are reliable, for a start. Question from Rainier28 (01:48, 20 March 2024)

Hi Tails,

I'm trying to edit the biography of Gerard Dubois (chef). I made a writeup with the help of chatgpt. I edited the content for Gerard Dubois, but DanCherek keeps on deleting all the information.

How can I edit Gerard's biography on wikipedia? -- Rainier28 ( talk) 01:48, 20 March 2024 (UTC) reply

Hiya, @ Rainier28! I highly don't recommend using ChatGPT to write or add information to articles, you can see Wikipedia:Large language models for further information regarding the use of ChatGPT and other LLMs on articles. Additionally, I'll have to agree with DanCherek here – it was not only promotional, but also entirely unsourced, adding on to an article that adheres to the biographies of living persons policy. However, if you'd like to add the content back, I highly encourage you not to use ChatGPT to write it, shouldn't read promotional, and every claim and statement should be referenced to reliable sources. Thanks! ~ Tails Wx ( 🐾, me!) 14:28, 20 March 2024 (UTC) reply

A Request

Hello there,

I couldn't help but notice the lovely aroace flag strip on your userpage—it's absolutely beautiful! I really really loved it. I was hoping to add a Gay male pride flag over my userpage similarly but I don't how to ? Since, I do not know that much about coding. Would you be willing to lend a hand? No pressure at all, of course! Please do not feel obliged to do so.

Thank you for your time! PrinceofPunjab TALK 05:22, 21 March 2024 (UTC) reply

Hello, Ildivino1010! I'm happy to help you with Draft:Stiven Mikhail, but in what way can I help you? ~ Tails Wx ( 🐾, me!) 14:00, 23 March 2024 (UTC) reply
It was published before and everything seemed fine. I don't understand fully why it was declined. I know the person who made it didn't do the best job at references but they are there. Is there anyway you can help publish it ? I can give you all exact details? Ildivino1010 ( talk) 20:14, 23 March 2024 (UTC) reply
Yeah! So you're correct that it was in mainspace previously, but was moved to draftspace by Ponyo here, as it was not ready for mainspace and also due to persistent UPE concerns targeting the page. Now, I (and a few other reviewers) declined the draft because the subject, Mikhail, didn't meet, per the sources in the draft, the general notability guideline nor notability guidelines for biographies. I also see a {{ Paid contributions}} tag – that'll also have to be resolved as well before it is moved back to mainspace. There is this source in the draft that's a good start – try finding more reliable, secondary sources with significant coverage of Mikhail similar to that source! I'll be happy to do a source review for the references in the draft, or to help you in any way to try and establish notability of Mikhail – including attempting to find notability-estabilishing sources! Hmm. This may not be a reliable source since it's a blog, and also might be routine coverage, which may not be enough to establish notability of Mikhail. Are there other reliable, secondary sources, other than the blog, that offer significant coverage of him? (Courtesy ping @ Ildivino1010!) ~ Tails Wx ( 🐾, me!) 14:01, 24 March 2024 (UTC) reply
I will attach 3 articles. One is the countries official sporting website news nb1 which is the first division. It covers when Mikhail arrived with Canadian players to Hungary. The other is the county official media that the blog took the article from. The third is just a random one of many interviews from Canada second division website media team on their official website. what is simple wiki ? Also can this draft be deleted ? Ildivino1010 ( talk) 05:35, 25 March 2024 (UTC) reply
Simple English Wikipedia is sort of like Wikipedia, but it basically uses fewer words and simpler grammar. You can also check out Wikipedia:Simple English Wikipedia for further detail and information as well!
Now, if you were to be the author of the only substantial content in the draft, you would have requested {{ Db-g7}}; but since others have edited it, the draft is therefore ineligible for G7. However, if the draft is gone unedited for six months, then it can be deleted under G13. Otherwise, I can't find an option for the draft to be deleted. (Courtesy ping @ Ildivino1010!) ~ Tails Wx ( 🐾, me!) 15:04, 25 March 2024 (UTC) reply
The article went beyond 6 months and was not deleted which is why I started this dialog. All I'm trying to do is get this back ou lished the way it was before. The editing was what got it removed which shouldn't have happened. Notability in Hungary is different then per say USA as there are much more news outlets. In Hungary not many. So to get one article is enough especially the nb1 website mention along with focidrukker. I see coaches in lower level then this with less articles that have a wikipedia. Instagram and Facebook should become eventually reliable because you need to show government i.d in order to get verified. I hope we can resolve this. Ildivino1010 ( talk) 15:37, 25 March 2024 (UTC) reply
Sorry, but when was the draft not edited in a six-month period? The closest large time-span was a near-four month period of no editing, but otherwise, I don't see the draft being edited past six months.
Can you clarify what you mean by "notability in Hungary is different than per say USA"? This is the English Wikipedia, not the Hungarian Wikipedia. I'm not sure what the notability guidelines are on the Hungarian Wikipedia, but I imagine it's similar to the English Wikipedia's. Additionally, one source isn't enough to establish notability, especially if it doesn't have significant coverage of the subject. There has to be multiple presumed, published sources that are reliable and secondary, and also should contain significant coverage of the subject. And as stated above, Instagram isn't a reliable source, and Facebook isn't one either! ~ Tails Wx ( 🐾, me!) 21:02, 25 March 2024 (UTC) reply

Question from Windrush3

Hi, Windrush3! Since I'm not really active on Simple English Wikipedia; I don't have an article there. I'm assuming that creating a page on Simple Wikipedia is basically the same as creating one here; so probably yes! ~ Tails Wx ( 🐾, me!) 14:00, 23 March 2024 (UTC) reply
Ho

Can I send you my sandbox page? Or how to go forward?
actually that was a non technical use

I just have a simple
page I want to publish… Windrush3 ( talk) 14:04, 23 March 2024 (UTC) reply
Oh, alright! So, you moved your sandbox to a userpage, with the userpage belonging to a non-existent user. I've gone ahead and reverted it and marked the userpage for speedy deletion, just an FYI. Your sandbox isn't affected, however. Next, is the subject notable? We'll need reliable, secondary sources of the subject with significant coverage of them, and so far, it doesn't seem like the subject, Reverend Mark Farr, meets notability guidelines, unfortunately. I'll be happy to take a look for any sources that establish notability of Farr if you'd like, though! (Courtesy ping, @ Windrush3!) :) ~ Tails Wx ( 🐾, me!) 14:30, 23 March 2024 (UTC) reply
So regarding the notability guidelines, being president of a fairly well known international organization working with dialogue between Russia and the US isn’t enough ? Or of the John Lewis organization
Not seeking to be picky, trying to understand Windrush3 ( talk) 14:33, 23 March 2024 (UTC) reply
I put in some sources from Brookings, C-Span, global peace foundation, Eurasia Center, not sure if you saw them Windrush3 ( talk) 14:34, 23 March 2024 (UTC) reply
It's alright! Understanding notability guidelines might be a bit difficult or frustrating at first; but you'll later know which sources establish notability or not.
So, the general notability guideline states:
A topic is presumed to be suitable for a stand-alone article or list when it has received significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject.
This applies to any biography of a person, though WP:NBASIC is a much clearer, specific notability guideline for people. It's basically the same thing.
For Farr, I'll do a source review below:
  • The C-Span source just leads me to the homepage, and not a specific page. Is there a specific one?
  • The Association for Diplomatic Studies and Training source doesn't even mention Farr, despite its reliability, so that's not a source to establish notability, unfortunately.
  • The American Academy of Diplomacy source – same thing with the Association for Diplomatic Studies and Training source.
  • The US-Russia relations source – again, same thing with the above two sources.
  • The Brookings source – we're getting there, but just a profile with two sentences? Not much to establish notability of Farr.
  • The Eurasia Center source – reliable, has significant coverage – but not a secondary source, unfortunately.
  • The Global Peace Foundation source – same thing with the Eurasia Center source: reliable, significant coverage attained, but not a secondary source!
So, Farr needs work in establishing notability of him. Let me know if you need help in finding sources, or if you need any example sources that are reliable, secondary, and have significant coverage of a person! There could be more outside of the noted sources above; though I'll need to take a more thorough, in-depth search for sources. (Courtesy ping Windrush3!) :) ~ Tails Wx ( 🐾, me!) 14:58, 23 March 2024 (UTC) reply
Thank you for helping me understand

Question from JANASHVILI on Wikipedia:Contact us (16:09, 22 February 2024)

Hello, please help me. I write information in wikipedia and this was and that was very little text, wikipedia tell me abt that and I add some information but in the page still is warning and this page can be deleted. what can I do? -- JANASHVILI ( talk) 16:09, 22 February 2024 (UTC) reply

JANASHVILI, I'm pretty sure this is regarding your sandbox, User:JANASHVILI/sandbox. That page is not tagged with a "warning template", nor for deletion. ~ Tails Wx ( 🐾, me!) 20:04, 22 February 2024 (UTC) reply
( talk page watcher) @ JANASHVILI: Is this regarding ka:ჯანაშვილები? If so, it might be better to ask for help on the Georgian Wikipedia, as editors there may be more familiar with its processes. All the best, ‍—‍ a smart kitten[ meow 20:28, 22 February 2024 (UTC) reply

I'm working on brand new subjects. Therefore the only references are the sources I used to conduct my research.
On the subjects I'm working on, there are no references or publications because this is new.
Therefore are the sources I'm using enough as references?

Hiya, @ AtlantaWeatherChaser! You can start working on it by creating a draft on the Newnan EF4 tornado, given that if it meets the general notability guideline or notability guidelines for events.

I was hoping to add a Gay male pride flag over my userpage similarly but I don't how to ? Since, I do not know that much about coding. Would you be willing to lend a hand? Question from EoinOT (00:15, 22 March 2024)

Hi! I'm new to being a user at Wikipedia. I was trying to message another user recently, but haven't been able to figure out how. I tried the "email this user" option, but I just got an error saying: You cannot send email to other users on this wiki. -- EoinOT ( talk) 00:15, 22 March 2024 (UTC) reply

( talk page stalker) Hello @ EoinOT; welcome to Wikipedia. Usually, email is only used for confidential matters; the preferred method of communication is their talk page. The user likely enabled a setting that does not allow new users to email them to prevent harassment. If you need to email them for a confidential matter, you can ask them to email you on their talk page; otherwise, just put your message on their talk page. Hope this helps, queen of 🖤 (they/them; chat) 01:32, 22 March 2024 (UTC) reply

That is one link and the president of this football club is a senator and his main page also features Mikhail as a new signing. Would this work ? Thank you for all your help ! Ildivino1010 ( talk) 07:48, 24 March 2024 (UTC) reply
@ Ildivino1010, the three sources you mentioned I'll review below:
Sadly, these sources aren't going to establish notability. ~ Tails Wx ( 🐾, me!) 15:25, 24 March 2024 (UTC) reply
The last thing I could find is transfermarkt and Mikhail Instagram. He is verified. Transfermarkt is only for professional players and coaches and is the first thing football teams , agent , coaches look for.

Another news article by Feol will come in the summer most likely when he signs with a new club. Hope this helps Ildivino1010 ( talk) 15:42, 24 March 2024 (UTC) reply
Although he's verified on Instagram, neither Transmarkt or Instagram are reliable sources, sadly. :( ~ Tails Wx ( 🐾, me!) 15:59, 24 March 2024 (UTC) reply
what is simple wiki ?

Question from Windrush3

hello Tails. Are you able to create and publish a simple wiki page? Windrush3 ( talk) 12:02, 23 March 2024 (UTC) reply

Ho
thanknyou for replying.
Can I send you my sandbox page? Or how to go forward?
actually that was a non technical use
if the word “simple”!!
Thank you for helping me understand
let me see if there are sources like that out there. I will check and get back to you

Women in Red

Hi there, Tails Wx, and welcome to Women in Red. It's good to see you now intend to devote some of your editing time to writing about women. If you can develop biographies with the same level of detail as in your articles about weather disasters, you'll certainly be a useful member of the project. In this connection, you might find some useful tips in our Primer. Please let me know if you run into any problems or need assistance. Happy editing!-- Ipigott ( talk) 09:50, 24 March 2024 (UTC) reply

Hey there, @ Ipigott! Yes, I'm working to start articles for women in sports, and if ya haven't noticed, I've began working on Draft:Sara Scalia, an American college basketball player for Indiana Hoosiers women's basketball, and likely starting work shortly on Lexus Bargesser, another women's basketball player for the same team. Thanks for the warm welcome! I'll push my efforts for high-quality articles about women's basketball players, similar to my articles about severe weather events! :) ~ Tails Wx ( 🐾, me!) 14:10, 24 March 2024 (UTC) reply
Yes, I noticed you'd made a one-line start on Sara Scalia. That's no doubt what prompted you to join WiR. I've also been reassessing your articles, upgrading quite a few to the B class they deserve. Good to hear we can expect high quality coverage of women basketball players. I look forward to seeing them on mainspace.-- Ipigott ( talk) 14:34, 24 March 2024 (UTC) reply

Question from Filyx20 on Template:Montreal Metro route diagram (22:57, 26 March 2024)

Hi there, I'm planning on updating some stations to have the accessibility logo inside of them , i know i need to put 1ACC inside however i do not want to damage the rest of the structure.

I am planning on adding Jean-Drapeaux as accessible (source can be a literal photo of the station) McGill apparently was forgotten to be added and that's it for now (source the official stm website) -- Filyx20 ( talk) 22:57, 26 March 2024 (UTC) reply
