Hi Bill, I noticed your removing the hyphen from the Missouri Pacific Railroad entries on the List of Registered Historic Places in Arkansas. I am sure you a correct on the current name of the railrod. However, I am curious, was the hyphen ever part of the name? Since the NRHP listings are always in the orginal name of the structure, if historically the name had the hyphen, then the corresponding NRHP listing would have it also. - Missouri Pacific Railroad (no hyphen) is the correct name from 1916 until the railroad was merged into Union Pacific in the mid-1980s. From the time the company was first incorporated until 1916, the correct name form was Missouri Pacific Railway (no hyphen). The hyphen is a typographical error by the Arkansas Historic Preservation Program, the entity which prepared the National Register nominations in question. The hyphenated name is not supported by any historical data or primary source material. I mentioned Interstate Commerce Commission dockets and reports because these were considered legal documents where the corporate name was expected to be exactly correct - including such minor details as hyphens, railroad vs. railway, or whether "the" was actually a part of the corporate name. Thanks for raising this question, because the NRHP naming convention is to use the original name of the structure, but in these Missouri Pacific depot naming cases, the hyphen typo unfortunately slipped through. Would you mind if I moved that image to the Springfield, Illinois (Amtrak station) infobox? Or do you have some other image that you think might be better suited? ---- DanTD 22:51, 10 August 2007 (UTC)
- If there is some good reason for moving it, I have no problem with you moving the image. I tend to avoid images in infoboxes because I dislike the postage stamp size display which results on the page. RI-Bill 15:12, 12 August 2007 (UTC)
- Following up on my earlier comment, my main objection was concern over the need to reduce the image size substantially. I have since seen a few images in infoboxes which are approximately the same size as the current Springfield image -- if size reduction isn't necessary, moving the image to the infobox might present a cleaner page appearance. - Correct. The Cotton Belt service ended in 1959 and Amtrak began using the Lone Star name in May 1974, after Santa Fe withdrew their permission to use the Chief names. Other than the common name, there is no overlap or relationship between the routes, unless you count terminal trackage within Dallas Union Terminal, which was the only station served by both the Cotton Belt and Amtrak Lone Star trains. I found this line from the article on New Orleans Union Station;
New Orleans at the time of the station's construction had several separate railway stations including the Texas Pacific Railroad- Missouri Pacific Railroad Station on Annunciation St. between Melpomene and Thalia Streets; The Louisiana and Arkansas- Kansas City Southern Railroad Station at 705 S. Rampart Street; the Southern Railway Terminal at 1125 Canal Street and the Louisville and Nashville Railroad Station, on Canal St. near the Mississippi River.

- You ask a good question, and I cannot provide a total answer. Both the Missouri Pacific Railroad and the Texas and Pacific Railway served New Orleans. Terminal trackage for these carriers in the New Orleans area was owned by a separate, wholly owned subsidiary, named the Texas Pacific-Missouri Pacific Terminal Company of New Orleans. Note that this subsidiary company does not have the "&" or "and" between Texas Pacific.
- Reference to the terminal company would thus not have the ampersand or and, while reference to the parent corporations would have this detail. Most would probably consider either name form correct in the above usage. The terminal was operated by TP-MPT RR, while the passenger trains operating into the terminal were trains of the T&P and the MP. It makes for a confusing situation. Another user is trying to rename Texarkana (Amtrak station) as Texarkana Union Station, as I've done in the past. I tried to point to my previous effort to do so and your explanation of why it was wrong, but the supporters fail to understand what I've been telling them. File:Carlinville.jpg is now available on Wikimedia Commons as Commons:File:Carlinville.jpg. This is a repository of free media that can be used on all Wikimedia wikis. The image will be deleted from Wikipedia, but this doesn't mean it can't be used anymore. - The pre-Amtrak railroads serving Dallas Union Terminal (the correct name prior to its 1970s renaming as Dallas Union Station) included Texas & Pacific, Santa Fe, Cotton Belt, Fort Worth & Denver, Rock Island, Frisco, Katy, and Southern Pacific. There are an estimated 30,000 different varieties of United States banknotes, yet only a fraction of these are represented on Wikimedia Commons in the form of 2D scans. Additionally, Colonial America, the Confederate States, the Republic of Texas, multiple states and territories, communities, and private companies have issued banknotes that are in the public domain today but are absent from Commons. In the months of November and December, WikiProject Numismatics will be running a cross-wiki upload-a-thon, the 2019 US Banknote Contest. The goal of the contest is to increase the number of US banknote images available to content creators on all Wikimedia projects. Participants will claim points for uploading and importing 2D scans of US banknotes, and at the end of the contest all will receive awards. Whether you want to claim the Gold Wiki or you just want to have fun, all are invited to participate. Another user is trying to rename Texarkana (Amtrak station) as Texarkana Union Station, as I've done in the past. I tried to point to my previous effort to do so and your explanation of why it was wrong, but the supporters fail to understand what I've been telling them. - The pre-Amtrak railroads serving Dallas Union Terminal (the correct name prior to its 1970s renaming as Dallas Union Station) included Texas & Pacific, Santa Fe, Cotton Belt, Fort Worth & Denver, Rock Island, Frisco, Katy, and Southern Pacific. There are an estimated 30,000 different varieties of United States banknotes, yet only a fraction of these are represented on Wikimedia Commons in the form of 2D scans. Additionally, Colonial America, the Confederate States, the Republic of Texas, multiple states and territories, communities, and private companies have issued banknotes that are in the public domain today but are absent from Commons. In the months of November and December, WikiProject Numismatics will be running a cross-wiki upload-a-thon, the 2019 US Banknote Contest. The goal of the contest is to increase the number of US banknote images available to content creators on all Wikimedia projects. Participants will claim points for uploading and importing 2D scans of US banknotes, and at the end of the contest all will receive awards. Whether you want to claim the Gold Wiki or you just want to have fun, all are invited to participate.
