Information icon Hello, I'm Graywalls. I noticed that you added or changed content in an article, but you didn't provide a reliable source. It's been removed and archived in the page history for now, but if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so. You can have a look at referencing for beginners. If you think I made a mistake, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Hello, I see you have a lot of experience and have been around for a long time, but the sources you're using is a cause for concern. Personal websites should rarely be used with slim exception such as using the article subject's own site to cite things such as their birthday/place of birth. I see you've extensively used a personal website plaskett.family on multiple articles, which is not a reliable source per our definition. Graywalls ( talk) 00:38, 14 February 2024 (UTC) reply

This is the dumbest notification I've ever received. What article? What content? What source? Where is it archived? — btphelps ( talk to me) ( what I've done) 05:14, 14 February 2024 (UTC) reply
While going through an article, it was noticed that bloggy, exceedingly poor quality personal website with contents written by random people like Mabel Plaskett and Bill Alderson was noticed. You had inserted a source https://plaskett.family/mansfields-were-pacific-valley-pioneers/ for example in Salinan. Upon querying for articles containing this source, it was noted you were the one who inserted links to plakett.family blog in practically every occurrence. This source fails the reliable sourcing standards. I hope this clarifies the matter. Graywalls ( talk) 08:10, 14 February 2024 (UTC) reply
You are incorrect. The web site is NOT a personal blog. The site contains excerpts from a historiography written by a person who lived during the era described. It's first person reporting of events and people the author knew. It's as if I'm citing a first hand account of a World War II battle by a person who witnessed it. Please restore the content you removed. — btphelps ( talk to me) ( what I've done) 17:41, 15 February 2024 (UTC) reply

(copied from the COI discussion:) Graywalls, from whom are you seeking further input? As far as the source you are referring to, the content was written by a member of a pioneer family who settled the Big Sur region in the late 1800s. These stories were written by Mabel Plaskett in a series of articles published in the King City Rustler in November of 1962 titled "History of Coast Schools" and reproduced on the website. If you weren't in such a rush to be the hero in removing content sourced from what you regard as a "blog", you might find some merit in the content. Her first person accounts of life there are analogous to a WWII soldier's stories about combat. Only the subject is much less studied. Her recollections are considered a reliable history of that area by California scholars.
FYI, her death notice describes Mabel as a "well-known county journalist." Mrs plaskett, Journalist, Poet, Dies in King City
I am meanwhile attempting to locate the newspaper and other sources. Please refrain from further preemptive, rogue edits and cease your attempts to smear my character, my many years of reliable contributions to WO, and attacks on my reputation. This unnecessary report of a COI and unfounded attack on me along with your rash deletion of content without discussion are in part why so many good editors leave WP. It's people like you that have caused me to cut back on my contributions. — btphelps ( talk to me) ( what I've done) 08:11, 24 February 2024 (UTC) reply
Are you aware short form obituaries like this are generally written by and submitted by FAMILY MEMBERS, such as descendants and extended families? If this person has been repeatedly cited, and spoken of as experts in multiple credible academic journals in the field of history and such, that would mean something different. Graywalls, As noted on the notice board, your accusation of a COI on my part without prior discussion on my talk page here is a red herring, a deliberate attempt to mislead or distract from a relevant discussion about the source above. Please stop your BS. — btphelps ( talk to me) ( what I've done) 08:11, 24 February 2024 (UTC) reply

Do you have any relationship with Ventana Wilderness Alliance whose article you created? I noticed more than a few citations to them and noticed a considerable portion of citations to this group was done by you. One eaxmple is Special:Diff/960875748. Thank you. Graywalls ( talk) 08:04, 26 February 2024 (UTC) reply

I also have additional COI concerns about White Stag Leadership Development Program and Béla H. Bánáthy as it appears you may have a close relationship with these article subjects, yet specific disclosures have not been made by you. Graywalls ( talk) 11:48, 11 March 2024 (UTC) reply

Hello Btphelps. The nature of your edits, such as the one you made to Béla H. Bánáthy, gives the impression you have an undisclosed financial stake in promoting a topic, but you have not complied with Wikipedia's mandatory paid editing disclosure requirements. Paid advocacy is a category of conflict of interest (COI) editing that involves being compensated by a person, group, company or organization to use Wikipedia to promote their interests. Undisclosed paid advocacy is prohibited by our policies on neutral point of view and what Wikipedia is not, and is an especially serious type of COI; the Wikimedia Foundation regards it as a "black hat" practice akin to black-hat search-engine optimization.

Paid advocates are strongly discouraged from direct article editing, and should instead propose changes on the talk page of the article in question if an article exists. If the article does not exist, paid advocates are strongly discouraged from attempting to write an article at all. At best, any proposed article creation should be submitted through the articles for creation process, rather than directly.

Regardless, if you are receiving or expect to receive compensation for your edits, broadly construed, you are required by the Wikimedia Terms of Use to disclose your employer, client and affiliation. You can post such a mandatory disclosure to your user page at User:Btphelps. The template {{ Paid}} can be used for this purpose – e.g. in the form: {{paid|user=Btphelps|employer=InsertName|client=InsertName}}. If I am mistaken – you are not being directly or indirectly compensated for your edits – please state that in response to this message. Otherwise, please provide the required disclosure. In either case, do not edit further until you answer this message. Graywalls ( talk) 02:49, 15 March 2024 (UTC) reply

Please stop attacking other editors, as you did on Wikipedia:Conflict_of_interest/Noticeboard. If you continue, you may be blocked from editing. Comment on content, not on other contributors or people. Drmies ( talk) 17:18, 25 March 2024 (UTC) reply
