Speedy deletion of Januario Galut

A tag has been placed on Januario Galut, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to have no meaningful content or history, and the text is unsalvageably incoherent. If the page you created was a test, please use the sandbox for any other experiments you would like to do. Feel free to leave a message on my talk page if you have any questions about this.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{ hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you.  Chzz   ►  07:27, 3 June 2008 (UTC) reply

Xtra COTW

Greeting once again WikiProject Oregon Folks. Time for another edition of the Collaboration of the Week. First, thank you to those who helped out on the last few COTWs. This week we have the soon to open Westside Express Service, formerly the Washington County Commuter Rail, so lets see if we can get it up to WPORE standards. Then there is a Coordinates Drive to add coordinates to any articles currently missing them, to help increase readership by allowing them to be shown on Google Earth/Maps. Qrazy sale at COTW! Act now! Total liquidation!

Greetings WikiProject Oregon folks, time for another edition of the Collaboration of the Week! Last week we saw some good improvements made to Westside Express Service, while we also worked on a Coordinates Drive. I don’t know how many articles had the coordinates added to, but thanks to those who helped out. This week we have two more requests: William Clark of Lewis & Clark fame and the famed Oregon Bottle Bill. Hopefully we can work both up to B class. Summer Time in the COTW

Hello again to those of the WikiProject Oregon Clan. Time for another new edition of Collaboration of the Week. Last week there was some good improvements to William Clark and the legendary Oregon Bottle Bill, great job to those who helped out. This week, by request is the Owyhee Reservoir, which is short enough to easily conjure up a DYK. Then, also by request is a red link elimination drive on Oregon newspapers. Howdy ya’ll, its WikiProject Oregon Collaboration of the Week time! Thanks to those who helped improve Owyhee Reservoir and start some new Oregon newspaper article, we had four new ones. This week it is time for a Stub Improvement Drive. So select a Stub, any Stub, and try to improve it to at least a Start class. If you expand it by 5X, then think about nominating it at Did You Know so it can be featured on the main page. 1 Year of the Collaboration of the Week

Hello again to those of WikiProject Oregon. It is time again for another Collaboration of the Week. The last two weeks were a Stub Improvement Drive, and thank you to those who improved any Stubs.

This week marks the one week anniversary of the COTW, so a brief highlight reel:

  • At least 10 DYKs
  • Three articles passed GA after being listed at COTW
  • Probably around 25 articles started
  • Almost all Top importance articles are now better than Stub class

And now on with our countdown. This week we have two requests, the Willamette Meteorite and Tom McCall. Hopefully we can get both to GA quality. Greetings WikiProject Oregon folks, it is time for another edition of the Collaboration of the Week! A big thanks to those who helped out in improving Tom McCall and the Willamette Meteorite last week. This week we have a request for Mr. Greg Oden who has been back in the news as of late, so hopefully we can get him up to B class before training camp starts. Howdy folks, its time for this week’s edition of Oregon’s Collaboration of the Week. First off, great job the last two weeks with Greg Oden & the Hospital red link drive. We had close to ten new hospital articles and two DYKs ( ) plus other improvements to the list itself. So thank you to those who helped out. This week, we have on a sad note Kevin Duckworth, and the Statesman Journal. Duckworth should have plenty of sources so hopefully in tribute we can get his article up to standards. With the SJ, hopefully we can get it above a stub so all three of the top three papers are no longer stubs, and maybe even a DYK and GA like we got from the Register-Guard? Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Category:Bluegrass festivals in the Pacific Northwest, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Category:Bluegrass festivals in the Pacific Northwest has been empty for at least four days, and its only content has been links to parent categories. ( CSD C1).

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Category:Bluegrass festivals in the Pacific Northwest, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Is http://www.wargs.com/political/larouche.html really a reliable source? It appears to be a self-published source. If so, it would be unsuitable for WP:BLP articles. ·:· Will Beback ·:· 05:23, 27 December 2008 (UTC) reply

PS: What's up with Category:Descendants of John Tripp? That is, why do we care who is descended from this apparently non-notable person? (Though it is ironic that a shared ancestor makes LaRouche a cousin of Winston Churchill, whom he hates). ·:· Will Beback ·:· 05:23, 27 December 2008 (UTC) reply

Note that William Jefferson Blythe, Jr. also cites the same genealogist and his research has been used by the Washington Post and other newspapers, as well as numerous genealogical sites. I notice he has co-authored with Gary Boyd Roberts of the NEHGS, and works for the Library of Congress. Breffni Whelan ( talk) 08:37, 27 December 2008 (UTC) reply

I see William Addams Reitwiesner is described on one blog as "oft quoted". Categories for everything

While we appreciate your hard work on Southern Oregon related topics, I wanted to make sure you were aware of the guideline about overcategorization. Specifically Small with no potential for growth, which is what many of these categories on media and people are. There is no set numbers, but my rule of thumb is you need to have 5 existing articles to even start a category, and it needs the potential to grow to a minimum of 10. There are a few exceptions, such as "People by county", but per the OVERCAT guideline, these are accepted as part of a larger categorization scheme. Not every little city, hamlet, and community needs categories for themselves or even their residents, as there just will not be that many people or articles from that community, there just are not enough notable topics in each place. Don't get me wrong, something like Media in Jackson County is fine since there are around 20 articles that could go in there (also see WP:CAT in general since if a radio station is in the sub category of the Medford radio stations cat, then it does not go into the parent Jackson County radio stations category), but as there are only two newspapers at present (and how many others do you think would pass notability guidelines?), the newspaper one is overcategorization and would likely be deleted. I say this only to help keep you from wasting your energy on categories that are likely to be deleted. Let me know if you have any questions. Aboutmovies ( talk) 08:35, 11 November 2009 (UTC) reply

Musings on Category:Canaan, Connecticut

In view of the the confusing aspects of Canaan (i.e., that there is a town of Canaan that is generally known as Falls Village and does not include the village that is shown on maps as "Canaan"), does it make sense to have Category:Canaan, Connecticut? I'm not sure what to propose as an alternative, but I have a concern that the category -- and the included category Category:People from Canaan, Connecticut -- may even add to confusion, instead of helping people. I imagine you've thought about this already -- what are your views? -- Orlady ( talk) 22:37, 18 April 2010 (UTC) reply

Maybe it should be phrased "Canaan (town), Connecticut"? These categories have been applied to legal towns or cities in Connecticut - villages are filed under the town they are located in. This has been done, for example with Greenville (town), New York - in Greene County, to differentiate it from the other Greenvilles in NY. The people are another issue - I don't know if there's any way of finding out just what part of pre-1858 Canaan someone was born - after that there may still be an issue. So, rather than throw up my hands, I'll file them under both places, with a note. If you think of something that works better, feel free to change it. Breffni Whelan ( talk) 00:14, 19 April 2010 (UTC) reply

Thanks for 'splaining. The creation of Category:Canaan (town), Connecticut seems to have resolved the problem. The only page left in the Category:Canaan, Connecticut category is the old postcard image of a tree -- most likely that tree was in Canaan village (aka the CDP), which is in the town of North Canaan. -- Orlady ( talk) 05:11, 19 April 2010 (UTC) reply

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, is currently undergoing a two-month trial scheduled to end 15 August 2010.

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under pending changes. Pending changes is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial. The list of articles with pending changes awaiting review is located at Special:OldReviewedPages.

For the guideline on reviewing, see Wikipedia:Reviewing. Being granted reviewer rights doesn't change how you can edit articles even with pending changes. The general help page on pending changes can be found here, and the general policy for the trial can be found here.

Category: Willimantic, Connecticut

Hello! I was wondering why you're adding everything from Category:Willimantic, Connecticut into Category:Windham, Connecticut? Why not just sub Category:Willimantic, Connecticut into Category:Windham, Connecticut? Otherwise, the Willimantic category is useless. Markvs88 ( talk) 18:54, 30 September 2010 (UTC) reply

  • Guess if it was a larger category it would be better to subdivide, but given that not a lot fits under Windham, Willimantic, and People from Windham/Willimantic, it just seems to work okay to have Willimantic items featured under both. Plus there's a few ambiguities (the Willimantic Elks club isn't in Willimantic?) Maybe if I lived in Windham, I could do a more precise job of it, and maybe someone will. There often ends up being ambiguities in categorizing these things, and the resolutions aren't perfect, but they work. And this does too - someone wanting to know about Willimantic can find just those things, and someone looking for the whole current town of Windham, can find that. About all it doesn't cover are all those places historically included in Windham (in the 17th and early-18th century) which no longer are. Breffni Whelan ( talk) 03:01, 1 October 2010 (UTC) reply
That's exactly it -- it would all fit under Windham County or Connecticut too. :-) Yeah, I generally go off what the article's sources say to make a final determination but there's a lot of ambiguity due to Willimantic's history. I only know a bit about the place from going to UConn in the 90s. Anyway, what do you think about subbing Willimantic under Windham? Markvs88 ( talk) 11:36, 1 October 2010 (UTC) reply
I had put Willimantic under Windham as a subcategory yesterday. Now we have here under Willimantic a list of everything pertaining to Willimantic, and under Windham a list of everything pertaining to Windham (which includes Willimantic). We could do the same for Windham County or for Connecticut (or Earth!) but it would be really unwieldy. But there are few enough total topics that unwieldiness is not an issue with Windham town. One can now see all the Windham topics in one place at the same time (except for the people, but then we usually list people separate from other topics...) You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

A tag has been placed on Robert J. Blackwell requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article, which appears to be about a real person, individual animal(s), an organization (band, club, company, etc.), or web content, does not indicate how or why the subject of the article is important or significant: that is, why an article about it should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you can assert the importance of the subject, . Clicking that button will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the article's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. You may freely add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.

See the guidelines for specific types of articles: biographies, websites, bands, or companies. Shakinglord: Kudos, Mailbox, ? ? ? 05:10, 16 October 2011 (UTC) reply

Ways to improve Yankton, Oregon

Hi, I'm Jackson Peebles. Breffni Whelan, thanks for creating Yankton, Oregon!

I've just tagged the page, using our page curation tools, as having some issues to fix. Hi! I've seen a lot of the hard work that you do in creating articles, but I just wanted to briefly offer some suggestions that you, as an expert, may be able to better implement than me. Please see the tags, and many thanks again!

The tags can be removed by you or another editor once the issues they mention are addressed. If you have questions, you can leave a comment on my talk page. Or, for more editing help, talk to the volunteers at the Teahouse.

The article Julius Katz has been proposed for deletion because it appears to have no references. Under Wikipedia policy, this newly created biography of a living person will be deleted unless it has at least one reference to a reliable source that directly supports material in the article.

If you created the article, please don't be offended. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Referencing for beginners, or ask at the help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{ prod blp}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within ten days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. Asian 10,000 Challenge invite

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Asia/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like South East Asia, Japan/China or India etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. At some stage we hope to run some contests to benefit Asian content, a destubathon perhaps, aimed at reducing the stub count would be a good place to start, based on the current Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon which has produced near 200 articles in just three days. If you would like to see this happening for Asia, and see potential in this attracting more interest and editors for the country/countries you work on please sign up and being contributing to the challenge! This is a way we can target every country of Asia, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant! Thank you. -- Ser Amantio di Nicolao Che dicono a Signa? Lo dicono a Signa. 01:23, 20 October 2016 (UTC) reply

Ways to improve Pine Ridge, Oregon

Hi, I'm Boleyn. Breffni Whelan, thanks for creating Pine Ridge, Oregon!

I've just tagged the page, using our page curation tools, as having some issues to fix. This has been tagged as it is unclear which parts of the article are verified, and thus unclear if this is reliably sourced because it lacks WP:INLINECITED refs.

The tags can be removed by you or another editor once the issues they mention are addressed. If you have questions, you can leave a comment on my talk page. Or, for more editing help, talk to the volunteers at the Teahouse.

2019 US Banknote Contest

US Banknote Contest
November-December 2019

There are an estimated 30,000 different varieties of United States banknotes, yet only a fraction of these are represented on Wikimedia Commons in the form of 2D scans. Additionally, Colonial America, the Confederate States, the Republic of Texas, multiple states and territories, communities, and private companies have issued banknotes that are in the public domain today but are absent from Commons.

In the months of November and December, WikiProject Numismatics will be running a cross-wiki upload-a-thon, the 2019 US Banknote Contest. The goal of the contest is to increase the number of US banknote images available to content creators on all Wikimedia projects. Participants will claim points for uploading and importing 2D scans of US banknotes, and at the end of the contest all will receive awards. Whether you want to claim the Gold Wiki or you just want to have fun, all are invited to participate.

If you do not want to receive invitations to future US Banknote Contests, follow the instructions here

Notice

The article Kamb, Southern Highlands Province has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Does not appear to be a legally-recognized settlement. USGN calls it a "populated place" which is their lowest/least formal designation for a settlement, below even village. Nothing found on a search that would indicate it's a GNG-compliant non-recognized settlement.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. ♠ PMC(talk) 01:06, 22 April 2022 (UTC) reply

A tag has been placed on High and Dry Bluegrass Festival requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for biographies.

Speedy deletion of "Category:Clinton administration personnel"

A page you created, Category:Clinton administration personnel, has been tagged for deletion, as it meets one or more of the criteria for speedy deletion; specifically, you removed all content from the page or otherwise requested its deletion.

You are welcome to contribute content which complies with our content policies and any applicable inclusion guidelines. However, please do not simply re-create the page with the same content. You may also wish to read our introduction to editing and guide to writing your first article.

Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. Elect the Best Financed, Least Offensive Person For the Job (aka Oregon COTW)

Hello fellow WikiProject Oregon folks, it’s time for another COTW. But first, just remember that those other guys only want to raise your taxes, but I won’t. A big thank you to those who helped make improvements to Bridges on US 101 and participating in The Semi-Annual Picture Drive. And unlike the other guys, I won’t ship your jobs overseas! This week, we have Mr. Bipartisan Wayne Morse who went from being a Republican to an Independent and finally to a Democrat. Then, let’s see if we can finish up creating articles for members of the Oregon House before their January inauguration. As always, click here to opt out of these messages, or click here to make a suggestion for a future COTW. I’m Aboutmovies, and I approve this message. Paid for the committee to elect Aboutmovies. Harvest Time @ COTW

Greetings WikiProject Oregon folks, it’s time for another edition of the fabled COTW. Thank you to all who helped make improvements to Wayne Morse and creating some members of the Oregon House. This week, we have by request Upper Klamath Lake which think made the news lately with a salmon plan. Then, in honor of the end of the harvest time, we will go farming with Fort Stevens. There is a beautiful link farm in the article that is ripe for harvesting into citations. It should provide for a bountiful feast, or alternatively you can take your hoe to it and weed some out. Hello to all the WikiProject Oregon folks, time once again for yet another bone chilling edition of the Collaboration Of The Week. Very cold, must type about the Oregon COTW to stay warm

Hello again from WikiProject Oregon’s Collaboration of the Week HQ. Since there was no notice last time, thanks to those who helped improve Mike Riley and Mike Bellotti at the begging of the month and to those who helped create Oregon Department of Justice and Lindsay Applegate last week. Those last two were the red links with lots of links to them from other articles (DOJ was #1). For this week, in honor of Arctic Blast/Winter Storm/Damn its Freakin’ Cold Outside 2008/Storm of the Century/Is there ANYTHING else on going on in the world?/We Might Actually Have a White Christmas, we have Snow Bunny. Then as part of the Stub elimination drive, we have state senator Margaret Carter, which could easily be turned into a nice DYK entry once expanded 5X. WARGS

[1] There is an exception for using self-published experts, but I'm still a bit doubtful since he marks the LaRouche genealogy as neither "exhaustive or definitive, but rather as a first draft." Categories for everything

Reviewer

If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Tiptoety talk 06:11, 14 July 2010 (UTC) reply

One can now see all the Windham topics in one place at the same time (except for the people, but then we usually list people separate from other topics...) The article List of American folk musicians in Washington has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

List with unclear criteria, populated with entries of uncertain notability.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

We noticed though that when you edited Kathy Boyd and Phoenix Rising, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Bluegrass ( check to confirm |  fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Category:People from Vienna, Virginia

When you created this category and began adding it to people's articles you did so incorrectly. A person are not to be categorized by both County and a town or town or city within it. Check People from El Paso Texas and People from El Paso County Texas, People from Topeka Kansas and People from Shawnee County Kansas etc. So you should have changed People from Fairfax County to People from Vienna, Virginia. ...William 00:49, 6 March 2013 (UTC) reply

Show up at any point during the four hours to get started!

Also: Free burritos!! We will be providing vegan, vegetarian, and meat burritos from food cart Loncheria Las Mayos. Alder Commons has a large, fenced playground. Children are welcome! Some computers will be available to borrow, but if you have a laptop, please bring it to use. We will also be leading an online training for new editors at 11am-12pm PST. Please feel free to join that training if you are not able to show up IRL.

This event is part of the international month of events organized by Art+Feminism, which is building a community of activists committed to closing information gaps related to gender, feminism, and the arts, beginning with Wikipedia.
