TRENDS Research & Advisory is an independent and progressive global think tank, based in Abu Dhabi founded in 2014. The think tank aims to explore regional and global issues around the world and how it may affect policy making in the Middle East.

TRENDS Research & Advisory was founded by Dr Ahmed Al Hamli in Abu Dhabi in 2014, as an independent, Emirati, think tank, part of the global community of research-based organizations. The purpose of the think tank is to further knowledge in the public sphere and to create a platform of open discussions between government, business and civil institutions around the globe, through conducting empirical research on global risks and challenges that are ongoing around the world. ^[1]

TRENDS examines a range of matter impacting human security in today's world. The organisation focuses on the politicization of religion in global and domestic affairs, how extremist groups manipulate ideologies based on religion, how best to counter the challenges of terrorism.

The think tank aims to create impactful research that furthers knowledge and influences thought leadership while also engaging in public debate to bridge understandings. ^[2] Trends has actively held events concerning regional issues within the United Arab Emirates, such as the "Gender Dimensions of International Peace and Security" conference in recognition and co-operation with the UN Women organization. ^[3] TRENDS has continued to involve itself with initiatives to research and debate the concepts of leadership and empowerment of women, review the successes of Emirati women in various fields, and highlight the role of the UAE in promoting the role of women in public life. ^[4]

TRENDS Research & Advisory has been named one of the Top 10 new think tanks in the " Global Go To Think Tank Index 2016" by the Lauder Institute of the University of Pennsylvania. ^[5]
