{{Gs}} (General sanctions) is a family of templates used as part of the community-authorised general sanctions system. This system is separate from the Arbitration Committee's contentious topics system. General sanctions is a fast-track system for dealing with contentious or disruptive conduct within specified areas of conflict. They are authorised for specific topic areas by the Wikipedia community on a case-by-case basis, following a discussion at the administrators' noticeboard, and usually involve providing administrators with extra powers to resolve disruption and promote civil participation. There are several main templates in this system:

  • {{ Gs/alert}} is used, on a user's talk page, to "alert", or draw a user's attention, to the fact that general sanctions are in effect for a topic area or article they are editing. The alert is used to inform them that any user who disruptively edits the topic or article in question may be placed under editing sanctions by an administrator. This template must be used to notify users.
  • {{ Gs/talk notice}} is used to provide additional communication, using a talk page messagebox (tmbox), to editors that they are editing a page that is subject to general sanctions. The template standardises the format and wording of such tmboxes. Some topics areas may use a more specific talk notice, which may be found here.
  • {{ Gs/editnotice}} is used to provide additional communication, using an editnotice, to editors that they are editing a page that is subject to a restriction. The template standardises the format and wording of such edit notices.
  • If a user who has been alerted goes on to disruptively edit the affected topic area, they can be reported to the incidents noticeboard, where an administrator will investigate their conduct and issue a sanction if appropriate. {{ Community sanction}} is used by administrators to inform a user that they have been sanctioned.
  • {{ Gs/topics}} is a list of topics for which general sanctions have been authorised. This list of topics is called or used by a number of templates and pages on Wikipedia.
  • {{ Ds/log}} is used to produce links, beside a {{ user}} template, that will search for all new-style alerts ever issued to the target user.
