Life between college and the state supreme court?
I presume that this subject engaged in some noteworthy activities in the decades between finishing his collegiate athletic career and being appointed to the state supreme court. Obviously, he had to go to law school somewhere and practice law or otherwise work in some legal capacity above and beyond that of the typical lawyer.
