I had a disappointing sojourn in a clubhouse. My rehabilitation and rights were not a priority. On the other hand, this article does a good job of summing up the clubhouse model. I don't have the knowledge but I wish the rehabilitation model was discussed from a scholarly point of view. Why don't all clubhouses adopt the ICCD Standards and certification? I read a fascinating critique of quicthe transitional employment program by a non-ICCD clubhouse specialist. As a political science major, I don't believe that a few mental patients from Rockland State developed Fountain House, which is supported by much philanthropy, and an international movement. There had to be powerful well-wishers. Similarly, a discussion of rehabilitation costs across various models would be useful. A quick review of the professional literature comparing models would be informative. While Fountain House was the model for many other Clubhouse programs, the Clubhouse Model of Psychosocial Rehabilitation is a model of community-based treatment that has been adopted by Medicaid as a core service.

In respect to the "Advertisement" designation, I intend to come back and edit out the potentially offending language, but the article describes the treatment model and associations which use and support it fairly well, and with a wholly acceptable degree of impartiality.

There could be more reference to scholarly research, and this is what I intend to fix.

What should we do about the term "unethical" regarding payment to member working within the clubhouse? It seems a little harsh -- we thought about "inappropriate," but that also seems too strong. Ideas? Communitypsych ( talk) 11:05, 3 November 2009 (UTC) reply

On Monday, October 26, 2009, a group gathered in St. Petersburg, Florida, at the biennial conference of the ICCD (International Center for Clubhouse Development) to discuss the information that Wikipedia has available about the Clubhouse Model.

We reviewed the Clubhouse entry on Wikipedia and collaborated in creating a list of suggestions for how to improve it. Among these are: adding links to existing videos regarding various aspect of Clubhouse that are available online; expanding the History section to include reference to John Beard and other major figures in the early development of the Clubhouse Model; adding much-needed references and citations, including to the evidence base; and expanding and focusing External Links (perhaps coalition pages and/or training should be linked, but not individual clubhouses, as this will make the External Links section too long; a direct Link to the ICCD should be included; Links should be organized). As a group, we are not concerned that the page will grow too long, assuming it remains well-organized and well-linked.

We came away from the session with some unresolved questions. The biggest one was this: the Clubhouse Model has a lot of "lingo." At this point, we discovered that a term like "work-ordered day," when searched on Wikipedia, takes one to the Clubhouse page. We talked about whether that's best as it is, or whether new Wikipedia pages should be added defining these terms. We tried to think about this from the perspective of people new to the Clubhouse model who are looking for information. We need to check out where other terms from the Clubhouse vocabulary land us when searched.

The Plan: At this point, those who attended the workshop and left e-mail addresses have been contacted about the existence of this discussion page. Each is encouraged to create an account and to begin to post thoughts here about how to edit the page. Each is also encouraged to read Wikipedia's help pages on using the discussion area, and other guidelines about editing the page. This is a collaborative effort; the nature of Wikipedia is that it is leaderless. Power to the people! Let's see what we create!!

At the time I'm typing this, there is an article for Clubhouse model of psychosocial rehabilitation and a draft article for Draft:Clubhouse International which was not approved to be an article. I think the simple encyclopedic approach here is to rename the "model" article to "Clubhouse International" and merge the draft into it. I can do that. There will then be enough sources, and too much text, with duplication. I can slim the resulting text down. The organization is plainly notable, and the case for the "model" to be notable is reasonable but it's really tied to the organization and I'll just make the "model" page a redirect. Thanks. I submitted the draft for Clubhouse International and agree with your suggestion to merge it with the Clubhouse Model page. However, I suggest naming the page "Clubhouse International and the Clubhouse Model of psychosocial rehabilitation." The organization Clubhouse International did not create the model, but supports Clubhouses around the world who implement the model. Hello, This is Lunnesta, and I am a current clubhouse rehabilitation member since 2018. So I understand the clubhouse model well, and will definitely work to provide the sources necessary to expand this article.
