In the 3rd paragraph under "Later studies" of the "History" section, it states "Eros was one of the first asteroids visited by a spacecraft". In the following section, "NEAR Shoemaker", it states "This was the first time a Near Earth asteroid was closely visited by a spacecraft" One of those line needs attention. Thank You for this page. This is strange. How can anyone be allowed to claim bits of space? [anon]

I notice that the Aspects table was inserted on "09:27, 27 July 2005" by IP 85.74.19.17. Does anyone know the source for the data in the Aspect Tables? The reason that I ask is that I see the Aspect table shows Eros will only get to magnitude 8.5 in 2012 and the Book "A Field Guide to the Stars and Planets", Donald H. Menzel / Jay M. Pasachoff, Second Edition, 1983, page 391 shows that Eros can get as bright as magnitude 6.8.
Is the 2012 opposition relatively far from Eros' date of perihelion? Does someone have a more reliable source/number for the magnitude? Can the HORIZONS Web-Interface predict the apparent magnitude within 10% or so? If it is really only going to be magnitude 8.5 then we will need to get rid of the comparison to Neptune and the other asteroids that has been listed by IP 203.194.52.198 since two days after the aspect table was removed on 14 June 2007. NEODys (saved output file) seems to show Eros reaching only magnitude 8.1 in late January 2012, making comments about Neptune and the other asteroids incorrect and pointless. -- Kheider 07:49, 20 September 2007 (UTC)

I removed the following footnote, but left the claim that Eros is "comparable" in size to the Chikxulub bolide:
First, the later was "at least" 10 km in diameter; second, it is mass, not volume, that is the pertinent variable. The Chikxulub calculation is based on it having been a solid body, which Eros is not. It could easily have been as large as Eros if it was also a rubble pile. — kwami ( talk) 20:12, 31 August 2012 (UTC)
My own two cents here: I understand volume vs density but, in the Physical Characteristics, it states Eros is around 16.84 km in size. Then under the "Mars-crosser" paragraph of the "History" section, it states "about five times larger than the impactor that created Chicxulub crater". Clicking on that link, the Chicxulub impactor was "about 11 to 81 kilometers". The statement here look quite inaccurate and feels like sensationalism which has no place on technical page of Wikipedia.

Wikipedia standards require that articles and documents of interest that speak about a subject be appended to the wikipedia article in question. However, it also requires that articles being spoken about have enough significance. This article does not speak about Gregory W. Nemitz, a person who made a noticeable actions regarding the asteroid Eros 433. The following citation shows his legal actions taken against NASA when they landed their "NEAR" shoemaker in his parking space number 29. In it, he fined NASA $20 for occupying said parking space, and even went to supreme court against NASA. [1]
The legal actions of Gregory W. Nemitz and his legal problems has also been popularised by Vsauce, a youtube celebrity who speaks about various topics of interest. [2] — Preceding unsigned comment added by 65.33.197.54 ( talk) 11:41, 7 October 2013 (UTC)

This article must mention how Eros was Earth's former second moon, but it does not. Here's what it should say: In 3,000,000,000 BCE, Theia, a dwarf planet the size of Makemake, impacted Earth at a 47.69 degree angle, breaking off a bit. 2 rings, a big inner one and small outer one, formed, and after 1.3 billion years, formed the sperical large inner moon (the Moon) and un-sperical small outer moon (Eros). Eventully, .7 billion years later, Eros spun away, becoming an asteroid. 174.21.179.117 ( talk) 00:36, 26 November 2021 (UTC)
